don’t want to discourage you, but the guidance counselor at my daughter’s school has told us that Penn State Main Campus admissions have become super competitive. They base admissions almost solely on your GPA and SAT scores, and they don’t take the time to determine whether you have come from a highly competitive school or not. Unless you are a recruited athlete or an underrepresented minority, no special consideration is given. According to an old grid posted on the web, with an 1800 combined SAT they are looking for a 3.8 GPA so you would not be in theblue “admit” zonebut l ikely offered admission to a branch campus. Since admissions at Main Campus have become more an more competitive, I would say good luck but make sure you have a “plan B” http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/bubble_chart06.pdf

The grid not only says that you will likely be admitted to a branch, but that additional review would be needed to determine eligibiliy for admission to University Park–so it’s a “maybe” for UP. I believe they use your weighted GPA–not sure if you’re providing weighted or unweighted. Apply before the end of October. The first round of acceptances usually go out in November and the later you apply, the harder it is to get in. It IS harder to get into Smeal than to some of the other colleges. Good luck!
