My chances of acceptance at Umass Amherst

I’m applying as an international student from India and Umass Amherst is my first choice. (Already accepted to University at Buffalo, Albany and San Diego State University) My SAT score is 1740 - CR 600, M 570, WR 570. My percentage has been consistent at about 83% which I believe translates to a 3.5 gpa.
I have a month of work experience and I represented my school at the State level in soccer and chess. I also have strong essays. What are my chances of getting into Umass Amherst and will they give me a scholarship? (I haven’t applied separately for any)

If you are looking at a science/engineering major, your math score is a bit low.

As far as a scholarship, UMass has made it no secret that they are accepting more internationals and OOS students, as a source of revenue. Your stats are good but not outstanding, unfortunately.

My intended major is economics @MADad . So I hope my math score won’t be that relevant.

83% would be considered a 2.8 GPA at my school in the US. Your GPA will probably hurt you, but you’ll most likely be accepted as undeclared. Buisness would be a reach.

@nj1818 - an 80% is commonly regarded as a B or 3.0 GPA (So 83% would be like a 3.2) though they may interpret GPAs from India better. (or worse) I would say that you might get accepted, undeclared, but I wouldn’t bet on a scholarship. (UMass’ stats- 3.78 GPA 1220 M+R SAT)

@Greenman57‌ There is no undeclared major anymore at UMASS.

Are you sure about that fallenwinter? There were lots of people accepted EA as undeclared.

You can be accepted an undeclared. They even have RAPs specifically for freshman without a designated major. However, you can’t graduate as undecided… you need to declare a major a some point!

@bucky0926‌ Actually, yes I am sure. A UMass/A rep came to my school and told us that there will no longer be an undeclared major. It was a very recent change so I was still able to put undeclared when I applied, but my friend who applied not too long ago as a freshman transfer found no option for it. Now if you check the CommonApp there is no option for undeclared.

Sorry if I caused any confusion as this change might only apply to people applying as transfers and hs seniors applying for fall 2016

I got in with a Chancellor’s award of $8000 yearly

Congratulations
