My chances of being accepted into Harvard Summer School Pre-College Program

Hello, I am a Sophomore in HS who wants to experience Harvard. It is my dream and goal to get accepted into this delightful and extraordinary program. After browsing the website for quite some time, a few hours to be precise, I discovered the best option suitable to my budget. That option was the two-week residential experience featuring noncredit courses, which includes the full on-campus housing and dining hall experience. However, as I was reading I stumbled upon a rigorous and prestigious application process which includes multiple recommendation references and a suitable essay for Harvard standards. Recommendation references and the essay will not be a problem for me, as I am gifted in those areas, however the GPA might unfortunately ruin my chances for admission. I suffered from depression last year, due to being bullied constantly and my GPA is very low. Low as in D’s in regular classes, which is unfortunately not my maximum intellectual ability. I am a very smart person with extraordinary typing abilities, reaching speeds up to 133 WPM. I have a very strong passion for computer science and astronomy, those are the courses I plan on taking throughout my time at Harvard Summer School. Admission would bring tears of joy to my eyes and hopefully inspire others to academically go for any goal they desire, if anyone could reply with an honest answer I’d highly appreciate it.

Forgot to add that I am doing very well this year in a therapeutic classroom and currently on the honour roll taking an AP Computer Systems course.

Thanks, Dan.

The Harvard Summer School program is extremely easy to get into. I think I read somewhere that the program has above a 50% acceptance rate. Frankly, the program is designed to make Harvard some extra money in the summer, so the program is extremely expensive, and in my opinion not worth it. Harvard Summer School is a decent experience I guess, but it really won’t make or break your college application. The only summer programs that will truly boost you are the ones that are not very expensive or even free such as MIT RSI, MITES, and SSP. Those programs have extremely low acceptance rates, but are extremely prestigious.

Alright, my past GPA will not sink me in the application?

Update: My counselor is going to write in my estimated GPA for my Sophomore year, which I am currently in. The GPA will be around 3 - 3.5, would that increase my chances?

If anyone could reply with an answer I’d be thankful.
