I am going to attend Harvard during this summer and hopefully the rest of my summers till I graduate. This summer I will be studying neuroscience and psychology.
I just landed an internship at Mission Hospital.
I am apart of Assisteens which is a group of girls that do community service.
I am going to take all ib classes next year except one. I will also take all ib classes senior year.
Freshman year I took all honors except biology, pe, and maybe math but I don’t know if my math was honors or not. But I took all the honors classes my school provided.
Sophomore year I am taking all Ap and honors as well as two classes at my local college. I have eight classes. I take two at my local high school. I take four at a more challenging school called Cal Prep. Then two at my local college. So I attend three schools. Oh but I’m taking pe and that’s not honors, neither are my college classes. College classes don’t count as honors or AP.
I am planning on joining National Honors Society next year.
I am apart of the Young Americans for Freedom club.
I am hoping on getting an internship with a neurologist or a psychologist.
Freshman year I volunteered in a Kindergarten class every Friday for around 6-7 hours.
I am also planning on getting certified as a CNA before my junior year ends.
What else should I be doing? And what should I get on the ACT or SAT, because I haven’t taken those yet? Also, do you know of any programs to help?
Ok. Way too early to be thinking about this. Calm down, pursue the acitvities you find enjoyable in high school and then apply to Harvard. The admissions officers do a great job of determining whether you’re a good fit for their school. Just try to represent yourself as well as possible and if you belong there I’m sure you’ll get in.
Why are you doing summer school at Harvard? It is expensive! It can be a wonderful experience, granted, but it won’t help with admissions that much and there are other ways to pursue your interests By all means do it this summer, but doing it every summer is a bit much. Honestly, my kids did well with college admissions but the last thing they wanted in summers was more school!
What is your internship at Mission Hospital? What kind of internship could you get with a neurologist or psychologist?
How did you end up taking classes at 3 schools? Is your school limited in some way? Was this your decision and initiative or someone else’s?
Be aware that things like grades, courses taken and test scores can get you in the pool of candidates but won’t make the difference in getting in.
You are only a sophomore. Please don’t live high school years with admission to Harvard as a goal. It might be a byproduct, but the chances are slim for everyone. Just enjoy your high school years, pursue interests to the greatest extent possible, make good friends, and work (but don’t burn out).
Remember it is better to find a school to fit you than to try to fit yourself to a school. Maybe, if you really insist on thinking about college admissions at this early date, it would help you to learn about the options in terms of so many wonderful schools out there.
