Hi, I'm currently a junior and really want to get into UPenn for nursing. I love how the school encourages nursing students to explore a liberal arts education. I wanted to apply ED. anyway here are my stats

GPA (9-11) 4.0 (Weighted)
grades - mostly A's except in chemistry and physics which have been mid-high B's (they are honors courses)
current course load: APUSH, Eng Honors, Pre-Calculus, Chinese III H, Physics I H.
Senior course load: AP gov/econ, AP Psych, AP Stat, AP Literature, AP Bio, Anatomy honors.
SAT: 1930, 2020
ACT - not taken yet

EC's:
National Honors Society 2 years
- Junior Representative in grade 11, will probably be president in grade 12.
Biomedical club - 2 years
National English Honors Society(2 years)
Educate 4 All Club- 2 years/ founder and president
Track (4 yrs)
Band (4yrs)
Volunteer at a hospital (2 yrs)

Recs: English teacher will probably give a really good one, physics teacher may give an okay but still good one.

I am worried that my science grades are not good enough. I know that UPenn really wants a strong focus in chem from their nursing students, but mine have just been OK (it was an honors class though). I am double tracking in sciences senior year in bio and anatonomy (I love these courses and am pretty good at them) so I am hoping that will make up for it.

Your extracurriculars are great! Make sure though that through these experiences you are enjoying yourself and learning a lot. Colleges do not always look for the “volunteer at the hospital” if that volunteer can’t reflect on their experiences and show what they gained from the experience and can’t reflect on their experiences (not saying you won’t, just a general tip). Overall, like you noted, your science grades do need to be a little higher. If you can at least try to get in the A- range do that. I know nursing (like you also stated) cares A LOT about science grades so it may not look too good if sciences are your only non-A grades. Everything else looks really good but your SAT scores do need to go up by at least 100 points. You do have a decent shot but your resume could be better. I hope everything works out for you and good luck!

This year, the average SAT for upenn ED was 2180, so your SAT needs work. You also need subject tests. “Candidates to the School of Nursing are strongly encouraged to take a Science Subject Test, preferably Chemistry”(taken from upenn website), which basically means that you HAVE to take a chemistry subject test. You don’t have to be good at chemistry to get a high score on the subject test. Get the barron’s book, and study for two months out of that, cover to cover, and you will get a 750+. They also want to see leadership and passion in your EC’s, which you have for some. As for your grade in science, try to take a subject test in that area which you got a B+. If you get a competitive score, you can show them that you know the subject really well. For all subject tests, get Barron’s. Hopefully that helped. Best of luck.

btw, are you not taking calc for your senior year? that may look bad

you need sat subject tests and the sat score could be better. I give it a mid reach
chance me back?
