Thanks guys!

Reach. Stats are on the low side + competitive major. Your brother going to Chicago isn’t really a hook. And many applicants to Northwestern have taken six AP classes in their junior year. Losing your home and your taekwondo experience are interesting aspects that will help you.

I would say your two weaknesses are your test scores and extracurricular activities. However you can change that by getting more involved with something of high quality not quantity and by practicing for the SAT preferably. Please chance me here

High-reach. 27 ACT would put you in the bottom 10% of the incoming class, and those that are accepted with sub-30 ACT have some sort of HUGE hook and most likely a close to 4.0 GPA. Regular decision is 10x harder at NU as well.

Hi!
I thought I may be able to help.
I was accepted to Northwestern (Evanston) this past December to the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. I applied ED, which probably obviously factored into my decision, but regardless here are my stats that got me accepted:
-Caucasian female
-I only submitted my ACT: 32 composite (-English:33; Math:27; Reading: 34; Science:32)
-Weighted GPA: 4.29
-Class rank: 9
-Involved in Key Club(VP), National Honor Society(Parliamentarian), Varsity volleyball (3 years), Environmental Club, Book Club(President), and Cultural Awareness and Race Equality Club(President)
-I had around 700 volunteer hours but I dont think NU knew that because they didn’t ask? Maybe the school records showed it, I’m not sure
-My essay was about how my little brother with Down syndrome has opened my eyes to happiness. I really think they saw that it was genuine so maybe that helped. I’m sure yours is genuine too.
-5 AP classes this year and took honors and AP classes whenever possible all throughout high school (maybe 10-11 in all)
-Glowing letters of Recommendation (one made me cry it was so sweet haha)
-My counselor wrote a letter about me on the Common App (Counselors are asked if they know the student applying and if they’d like to write something about them)
-Had one job for about 10 months
-Playing guitar for 8 years
-Awards: Junior Wall of Fame Award, Most Volunteer Hours for Key Club, Scholar Athlete Award (3 years)

Honestly, your GPA is stunning but your ACT is very low. I’m sure you still have a shot because everything else is stellar! Unfortunately, (and I wish it wasn’t this way) but I believe colleges weigh heavily on the ACT and SAT. But don’t worry too too much. For example, I know people who have gotten into Cornell and UChicago but not NU. Or have gotten into NU but not a school with a higher acceptance rate. Colleges work in weird ways and a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE thing for NU is who you are as a person.
That sounds all cheesy and whatever but I promise it’s true. If you were genuine in your essay and supplements and are someone of great character, you have a good shot regardless of your ACT score.
Good luck! Hope to see you on campus next year:)
