hello, i am currently going to be a senior in high school and want to know my chances to get into OSU.
I have a 3.4 gpa and a 25 act. My classes since sophomore year have been all honors classes. honors history 2, honors geometry, honors algebra 2, AP lang, this will be my fifth year of spanish (AP), AP lit, CCP precalc, Honors spanish 4, AP european history. I play basketball and lacrosse, have been a 3 year varsity letterman for basketball and team captain and a 4 year varsity letterman for lacrosse and team captain. i have finished as honorable mention in my conference for basketball and have finished on the first team all district team for lacrosse my sophomore year and then finished 2nd in the state for goals, made the first team all star team and 2nd all regional team. i am very involved within school i am in SADD (students against destructive decisions), key club (i have been class representative for the past two years, national spanish honors society, social studies national honors society (ROH KAPPA), and Mu Alpha theta (math honors society), as well as student council, and student ambassador. Throughout my high school career i have taken many leadership opportunities including look up to Cleveland which contains the top leaders around the areas within high schools and attended leadership conferences at OSU. I also took an internship for the election of Rob portman which ended up to be a very successful run!
Along side of this i come from a very diverse background i am palestinian and moroccan (muslim), both of my parents never attended school within the united states.
Your ECs are very impressive, but from what I know, OSU admissions are heavily based on GPA/class rank and test scores. For the class entering Fall 2016, the average ACT score was 29.1 and 95% were in top 25% of the high school class. Are you in top 25%? this can make a difference. I do not know if you still have the opportunity/plans to retake ACT and improve the score …
OSU wants to improve their number of first generation college attendees. You mention that neither of your parents attended schools in US, I am not sure this helps you count as a first generation student.
What areas are you interested in? Within Ohio, OU and possibly Cincinnati might be good matches.
neither of my parents were raised here and i am the first generation of my family born in the united states, i am planning to take the act again and shooting for a 28. i am also interested in dayton and miami.
From personal experience, OSU and Miami are both very unlikely with a 25 ACT for the main campus. My son, who had nearly identical stats, was offered admission to a satellite campus for both with option to transfer. Getting the ACT up to 28 will be key for you. Dayton should not be an issue for you, nor would schools like Ohio University, Xavier or Cincinnati.
