I am a chinese immigrant in San Francisco. I came here four years.

GPA: 3.92
SAT 1: 1580 (CR410, M 640, W530) i know it's very low!
SAT 2: Math2 680 Chinese 800

AP: I took ap us history exam without the class and I got 3.
Now i am taking ap cal AB, ap econ, ap physic c and ap stat.

EC: i am an officer for two clubs

work experience: I worked since my freshman year. I was an intern at an environmental organization for two years; now i am an counselor in training for a job program.

major in college: environmental science.

college applied:
UCLA
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UCSD
UC Berkeley

What's my chance to get into these colleges with a low SAT score 1580?

Are you considered in-state for the UC's? I'm not really sure how that works with immigration and all... but if you are in-state, you'll have better chances.

That SAT score is definitely a killer, though. Isn't there any way you could bring it up? As it stands, your scores (CR and W, anyway -- M is fairly solid) are around the 25th percentile for UCI and UCD and totally out of range for UCSD, UCLA or UCB. That's the only thing really holding back your application, though... Either retake the SAT I or find some safety schools you would be alright with attending. :/

UCLA - High Reach
UC Davis - High Match
UC Irvine - High Match
UCSD - Reach
UC Berkeley - High Reach

sorry to be honest, but i think that SAT is wayy way too low for these public schools that often base admissions on test scores rather than ECs (compared to privates which i think consider ECs more heavily)

^Agreed.
I think LA and Berk are fairly large reaches and SD is a reach.
Hopefully Irvine and Davis will overlook your SAT, so I would say they are a slight reach.

Right now, all of the UC's you're looking at are going to be reaches. Have you tried using SAT prep guides and practice tests? They can be an invaluable tool in the studying process and might help you significantly raise your scores -- especially CR and W, which mostly involve memorizing grammar rules and understanding what to look for in the passages. Good luck!

Wow, this was the thread I posted last year. Now I knew all the decisions. I got into UCI, UCD and UCB. I am surprised that I got into Berkeley. I think SAT is not the only thing that colleges look at.

Your SATs were kind of low but there must have been something else that set you apart. And you had a good GPA. Below are links for the stats of some students who also got into those schools.

Well, I got accepted into UCD, UCLA, Stanford, and UCB. My GPA 3.8 weighted and my SAT’s are 1560. I have no sports and only two clubs. I like your chances. You guys need to relax. I wrote my personal statement in about a day.

Actually, a girl at my school got into UCB and UCLA with 1150 SAT’s and a 3.75 GPA. She also never played any sports or clubs. Also, for some reason she can’t speak English even though its her first language!!! Imagine that. ***? What do you guys think?
