i suck at standardized testing in general. But have great grades..speckled with a few bs here and there. All AP classes. Lots of solid ECs. English is my things, so hopefully essays will be really good. should have 2 extraordinary recs from teachers and at least 1 extraordinary rec from outside source (pastor). 3 solid hooks. if i make all a's my senior year my gpa will be a 4.7

It looks like you have a solid chance! Are you doing ED or RD? I had around the same scores the first time I took the SAT (660 CR 650M 570W), but I took the Official Online SAT Prep and it really helped (760CR 760M 660W)!

I’m applying Cornell early (probably)! Most likely CALS or CAS! You?

THankyou! and so sorry it took me so long to respond i was away! Your score increases are ridiculous. Good Job. I’ve been studying super hard so hopefully i will have such significant score increases!!! And yeah, I’m applying RD to cornell CAS:)

I think you have got a chance, especially with your SAT II scores! I think I might retake my SATS again but best of luck to you! I am in a super competitive magnet program as well! I really hope that means something in the admissions process. Will you please chance me back? :)

by the way if u are not sure what your unweighted gpa is. Just list your schedule and tell us your grades. Then I will calculate your gpa for you. I will calculate your gpa using this scale: A - 4, B= 3.3, B - 3, C - 2.3, C - 2, D - 1 , F-0

I think because of your location you’ll be alright. As good a chance as any. Good luck.

Can you Chance me too?

I’m a Chinese male that lives in CA who wants to major in Engineering (preferably mechanical but I can deal with aerospace, EECS, naval)
I have a 2350+ super score and 2340 single sitting (2 sttings).
I have 800’s on math 2 and Chinese
790 in physics
780 in U.S. History
I have 5’s in ap physics C E/M, calc BC, psych, physics B, Literature, Euro
4 in U.S. History
I play the violin and I’ve played first chair in many orchestras throughout southern CA.
I’m also involved with a lot of community service (mostly senior home concerts and some hospital and convalescent stuff through a club I started) and I’m officers of a couple clubs, and one interesting microfinancing club.
I also take part in Science Bowl and Oceans Bowl and have some small regional awards.

During the past two summers I’ve had the opportunity to attend the California State Summer School of Mathematics and Science and had an internship with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. I’ve also left a good impression on my professors as well as my managers so I’m sure I can get a good recommendation.
(^ thats probably the most impressive part of my app)
I’m also a pretty good writer I have quite a few essay awards. One received divisional recognition in an International contest and another one received an award from the Chinese Consulate General.
Oh and idk if this changes anything but I also was awarded the RPI Medal.
My essays are more or less going to be well written.
My teacher and counselor recs are gonna be ehhh because for the most part… my teachers and counselors dont know me and they probably dont want to (I go to a large public school with bad teachers)
GPA Weighted is high enough and GPA UW is High enough too (both as almost high as can get)

Your stats are something else, but also keep in mind that asian competition will be tough…in the essays that you write, make sure you emphasize the non-academic aspects of your personality so that they can see that you are a multifaceted student…

I’m a Cornell alum, my advice would be to really play up the NASA Jet thing you did over the summer (like you said, most interesting part of the app) and the first chair violin (not so much that you were first chair but what you learned from the experience, etc) Your stats are obviously very impressive, but as I’m sure you know the math test numbers for engineering tend to be absurdly high. That said your SAT score also shows a lot of ability in reading / writing, which will be a nice plus. Really anything that can show leadership / ability outside of math (sociable since you left a good impression at your internship, musical talent, writing ability, etc.) will probably be the key determinant. Good luck!

Forgot that you were the OP, whoops… I’d say you have an strong shot if you can get the math score into the decent range. Wouldn’t have to be 700, but something like 650 (maybe even a little lower) would make you a good applicant.

Consideing your location and race, you relatively are one of the topmost scorers in the nation, and because you SATs are good, you’ve got a good shot of getting in. In your essays though, you should play the part about how competitive your school is and how you still managed to rank in the top ten percent.

Please CHANCE ME FOR A&S, EARLY DECISION:
I feel underqualified – at least when it comes to standarized test taking.

SAT I: 2090
SAT II, bio: 750
SAT II math and lit: signed up to take in October.
Rank: 2 of about 700
GPA: 4.97 on 5.0 scale
AP Scores: bio -5; pysch -5; politics -5; us history -5; statistics -5;literature -5; language -5. Signed up for AP calculus, physics, economics this year.
I also take Microbiology and Chemistry classes at my local college (an extension of University of Georgia).

Extra cirricular: Mock Trial (president); science bowl (captain); national beta club (vice president); National Honor Society; science olympiad (placed at state); tutoring Special Needs children in math for two years; employed as a computer programer at a medical practice for two years; play beginner level tennis and some classical piano.

I did a law academy program at university of georgia during my sophomore year, and left a good impression on judges and the law community in Atlanta; I also did a Law and Justice course over the summer of junior year at Emory Univeristy for 2 weeks; this past summer, I went to a State Council program for 4H and I took an online DNA Science class from Brown University – recieved a letter of appraisal.

Awards: National Merit Commended Student; AP Scholar with Distinction; Most Effective Attorney Awards (mock trial competitions); admitted on to the Student Bar Association of Georgia with Honors; Governor’s Honors Program Nominee (for Biology); Georgia Merit Award; letter from Georgia Senator for academic excellence; and a few others.

Roma: Though your standardized test scores aren’t stellar I think your extracurriculars are AMAZING just wow. The good thing about Ivys is that theyre not some state school so theyre not only looking at stats. I think your Extracurriculars are going to def make up for youre standardized test. Well actually we’re acting like your scores are low, but they’re not. Your scores + E.C.'s should make you a formidable opponent in the applicant pool. (in my humble opinion)

UPDATE: With a hard summer of studying and by the grace of God, I was able to get my SAT scores wayyyyy up (2100 range). It is possible. Good luck to all.
