I'm a high school junior and looking to apply to UW Seattle next school year. It's my number 1 school and I feel that I have pretty good chances but just want to make sure

I'm taking SAT's next month and have been studying so I should be able to break 2000 with really high CR and writing scores, math is my weakest but still solid. Sorry I don't have scores for that yet

Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Weighted: ~4.6

Class Rank: within top 5% at #6

I've taken many honors and AP classes:
AP Calculus AB
AP Statistics
AP Biology
AP Lang/Comp
AP World History
AP Human Geography
AP Psychology

Next year I will be taking: (AP wise)
AP Micro/Macro Economics
AP Literature
AP Spanish
AP Calculus B/C
AP Physics B

I want to go into business/econ. and I will have taken 1 marketing class (qualified for state competition for DECA), entrepreneurship, and accounting by the time I graduate.

EC: National Honor Society, Key Club, Red Cross Club, Spanish honor society

I also volunteer at the hospital and will have many hours of community service

If this matters, I'm in state and I am a good writer so my essays should be well written. This is my top school and I really don't want to waste a lot of money applying to schools that I don't even want to go to and will cost a lot more than UW since I get in state tuition.

@Igi: Lol a blank essay? I think I’d probably only do something like that for WSU. But I think it’s automatic admission for me there, if I’m not mistaken. I know someone who turned in a WSU app with “go huskies” for all the responses. they got scholarship money too.
so great.

@ghuskies: DONT send in a blank essay. You’ll probably be denied if you do, actually. Admissions does put quite a bit of weight on essays. If you send a blank one in, the message you send is, “I am overconfident and UW doesn’t mean enough to me that I would bother even writing a sentence.”

For WSU, yes if you have a 3.5, you are automatically in. This was around 5 years ago, but a friend of mine sent in an app to WSU with blank essays, blank extra curriculars… got into WSU with a full scholarship.

@speedsolver: Yeah by no means would I take the application lightly! I probably won’t apply to WSU anyway. It’s still $$ to apply and I really dislike Pullman. Seattle is meant to be can you start the essays in the summer? or do they put out essays for applications in the fall?

They put out essays for the applications in the fall (Usually the first few days in October, if I remember). You can start thinking about what you want to write in your essays though. There’s usually (at least) one out of the two (not including Honors) about diversity. I suggest perfecting common app essays over the summer and seeing how you can spin those around to fit other schools’ essay prompts. If the prompts are in completely different directions, then at least you have less essays to write. Remember that one prompt for the common app is “A topic of your choice.”

Look at some of the top business schools but exclude ones which seem to admit kids with 2100+ SAT scores and near perfect GPA’s (Wharton, Sloan, Haas, Tepper, Cornell, etc.).

OOS is okay too. My parents want me to apply to some farther reach schools. I used to like the UC schools but the cost is a turn off for how they compare to UW with in state tuition. I do want to move to CA for grad school though
