My Chances?

I am a white male who attends a public school in rural Colorado (my town has about 2,300 people), and I want to know my chances for being admitted to Bowdoin.

I am ranked number one in my graduating class with a 4.17 GPA, and I have taken every honors, college, and AP course offered at my school. I received a 33 composite on the ACT, with a perfect score in science (ironically my least favorite subject…).

I have been in Student Council for 4 years, and served as class Vice President for 3 years, and Student Body Vice President this year. I have chaired tons of committees ranging from Blood Drives to Canned Food Drives to school dances. I have been in FBLA for 2 years, placed in the top ten at state last year, and serve as chapter Vice President this year. I am the President of the local chapter of National Honor Society and have been a member for 3 years. I joined FCCLA this year, and qualified for the state conference in a community service project. I also joined EPYCS this year, and have been active in that club, as well. For 8 years, I was in 4-H, and I won Reserve Grand Champion Market and Showmanship in steers, as well as Grand Champion Record Book, and All Around Beef Champion. (I left 4-H this year; agriculture is definitely not for me…)

I traveled on a scientific research expedition to the Galapagos Islands and the Ecuadorian Cloud Forest where we did soil experiments, and studied the habitat of giant tortoises and rainforest life. Last summer, I traveled with the Art Club (oh, I’m a member of that too) on a trip to Spain and Morocco, where we were immersed in Mediterranean and North African culture. This summer I am going to Costa Rica to study and help preserve the Leatherback sea turtle, and study the tropical rainforest. I am fluent in Spanish, as well.

I also have participated in football and track for four years, and have received a varsity letter in each of those sports every year. I wrestled for 2 years, and earned a varsity letter for those years, as well. I will not be pursuing sports in college, however.

I’ve done all of this and managed to maintain a social life, as well: I’ve been class royalty twice and won Homecoming Royalty. And, I’ve grown up on a ranch, and my parents don’t qualify for any form of financial aid. I think I’m well rounded, but there are a lot of great students out there. So, now you know about me…

What are my chances of being admitted?

I am just looking for a short answer. A simple "you have no chance" or "it's likely" would be fine. Sorry about the length of the post; I just have no clue whether or not I will be accepted, and waiting this long for my number one school is making me anxious and overly nervous....

Probably no one answered because you'll know soon enough. I would say that your chances are very good - good grades and scores - diverse interests and EC's - plus the rural Colorado hook should help . .

Thanks for your comment. I know the decision is only a week away, but the waiting is killing me, and I just wanted some idea of what it might be.

i think you have a good shot. if you don't get in, it will have nothing to do with being an inferior student.

I think that your chance of being admitted to Bowdoin College is excellent to outstanding.
