I just got National Achievemnet and I am taking 6 AP classes this year. What do you think are my chances?

Im a critical grader. So when i looked at ur stats, i gotta say u got like less than a 20% chance of gettin in. Thats what it comes down to. U will have a 50% chance if you are extremely good at karate or something that you will want to pursue for the rest of your life. If you dont have any that were in the stats, (because i dont know you well enough to say!), u got like i said a less than 20% because of your lower end sat scores and act scores. But give it a shot. Ull never get in if u dont apply! Good luck though!

I'm not one to evaluate chances, but I wanted to point out that
Who's Who Among American High School Students
National Honor Roll
National Society of High School Scholars
are all rather "scammish." I think Who's Who, for example, gets sent out to something like 75% of all high schoolers. Unless you look into the awards and find out that they truly are based on merit, and not a desire to weasel money out of you, I'd leave them off your application.

You're taking 6 AP classes. That's great. Unfortunately, it doesn't really matter, since what really counts is what you've already done. Anybody can sign up for 6 AP classes; it takes a little more effort to 4.0 it.

What's your rank? That matters.

I don't think you'll make it, since your scores are so sub-par and your ECs are so uninteresting, but who knows? You're black, which may help a good amount.

My school does not rank. I just wanted to know, though my grades are low aren't they in the top percent of all african americans. doesn't that help?

um...sorry to say..but you SAT scores are pretty low for Harvard.....but always keep the spirit up..you never know...

I think my interview went really well and I really clicked with the interviewer. Will this increase my chances?

bump bump........

I hate to be negative, but I do not think you have any real shot at Harvard. The interview is not that important, and since you lack real outstanding aspects in any area, I do not see you dropping the H-Bomb any time soon. I can almost guarantee you will not get into Harvard early. If you were writing dynamite essays, you might have a sliver of a shot regular admission. Also, do not list all that High School Scholar Crap, or at least, not Who's Who, that is so banal and lackluster.

oh wow. are my chances that bad?

I would definitely not send those SAT and SATII scores. Your ACT is much better, and those scores aside, you have a chance, esp. if you have good essays and recommendations.

yea, dont send in your SATs. stick to your ACTs.
and dont try to sell your self as 'well im good for a black kid'. Im black, and I HATE it when other black students do that. You should be competing with everyone, do not demean yourself and your race by saying "though my grades are low aren't they in the top percent of all african americans"

:::::round of applause:::::

well, you can be an idealist or a realist. are you going to pretend that black students are doing as well as caucasian and asian students?

im not an idealist. I think the fact that a percentage of black students perform worse than caucasian and asian students, has nothing to do with their race, itself. I contribute it more to economic reasons, amongst other things. Also it seems like in many high schools, less is expected from minority students, and they never really realize their full potential. I know at my school, when I got a 1230 on the SAT the first time I took it, my college advisor told me that it was a greeeeeat score and it was going to take me wherever I needed to go. She didn't think that I needed to retake it, and try to do better the second time around. Thankfully, my father did, and I went up 240 points(1470). Every case is different of course, but I just that there is this unjustified sentiment amongst black high school students, probably brought on by their environment, that they don't have to try hard because they simply can not compete with whites and asians, and I that's simply not true.

i don't think stanmaster is implying that the black race in inferior or that he cannot compete with non-black students. its just an objective fact that his stats are good for an african american male. your response was an overanalyzation of the situation.

however, i do believe your points are valid.

mayb ur right. i think i used it as an opportunity to vent about something that really bugs me. Nonetheless I stand by what I said.

Sorry guys I am one of the people who is strongly against affirmative action and I was only mentioning that fact about my grade as being high for my race because I have heard about competition among members of the same race for spots at the school so I was just curious on how that factored in.
Also I would like to mention that I took two classes at harvard over the summer and I got an A- in both. So I wonder if that could help.
