My chances?

Hey guys, I posted a question in the UC Santa Barbara thread asking my chances there, but I figured I should post them here so I can get an evaluation on my standing with all the schools I'm applying to. My stats:

Freshman 1st Semester GPA: 3.2
Freshman 2nd Semester GPA: 3.5
Sophomore 1st Semester GPA: 4.1
Sophomore 2nd Semester GPA: 3.8
Junior 1st Semester GPA: 4.4
Junior 2nd Semester GPA: 4.4

I don't have any SAT/ACT scores because I kind of dropped the ball on that. I'm going to have to take them this year, I'm already registered and studying for both though. I have taken some AP courses however. Over the course of the three years I have taken over 10 honors or above courses.

AP World History: 2
AP US History: 5
AP English Composition: 5
AP Environmental Science: 4

My current Senior schedule is:

AP Literature and Composition
AP Statistics
AP US Government and Politics
Forensics Science
Health 9 and Health 10
Physical Education
College Pyschology/College Sociology

Also, I was on Student Council two years, I'm a currently a two year office holder of the French Club, and I'm currently the President of my school's Young Democrats club and we're very active this year getting connected with big people within the party.

There is one huge sore that I think will ruin everything though. I have an F on Virtual Health 10, I only had one semester and couldn't make time for it all. I'm not sure if this year taking in school Health 10 will make up the credit. It's my only glaring failure.

I'm applying to University of California at Santa Barbara, University of California at Santa Cruz, University of Colorado at Boulder, American University, College of Charleston, and West Virginia University (you don't need tell me I'm shoo-in for WVU, I know that lol).

You should get into all of them, no problem, unless you have really ****ty SAT scores (<1800).

Thank you, avenlea! Does anyone else have any input? It would be much appreciated :)

Bump. Please chance me. I’ll chance back :)

Have you calculated your UC GPA?

Very roughly, I’m above a 3.7 for sure, but I’ll have to do the actual score. I think it’ll be above 4.0 though. I forgot to mention, I’m out of state.

4.0 should be good for SB; definitely for sc.Why a uc? So much $$ 00S.

Well as I explained in my thread for the A-G strictness, I’m aiming out of state…no matter what epic amounts of money will be required, and my family and I are willing to pay. And I have high respect and admiration for the UC system.

I wonder if you could be more specific. I’m not sure I want to pay for UCSC (or the subject tests) and my son is in state!

Well, I want to go out of state, I want nothing more than to go out of state. The tuitions for all the OOS schools I’m applying to are roughly the same, so with price…it’s not really a factor in decision making. UCSC is basically my safety school in terms of California because I’m not sure I can get into Santa Barbara.

But you can get financial aid at some privates. And privates tend to have smaller classes, more advising, and less bureaucracy.

Anyway, good luck! (We could use the money! smile).

^Nice upward grade trend, that’ll help you a lot. Whats your UC GPA?
You should get into all of those schools as long as your SAT scores are fine and your SAT II’s are above average.

I’m UC GPA is far lower than I expected. It’s 3.48! I was shocked, and I don’t think this bodes well for me because like the lowest for OOS is 3.48. This isn’t good, right?

Still in the running, but SAT’s should be strong. Are you a junior or senior? In your other thread you said class of 2012.

I’m a Senior and I’m already studying for my tests. I my UC GPA I messed up when telling. It’s close to 3.5 than 3.4

So that makes you class of 2011 and you need subject tests. Not to worry if you’ve taken lots of AP’s.Are you sure your doing the GPA right? I don.t see how it could be so different from your estimate.

Well, I guess I overestimated. I have eight As, sixteen Bs, three Cs, and eight honors points. I’m assuming its the cap on honors that is killing me. I couldn’t get an A in most of my APs.

Did for know you can’t use honors points unless you go to school in California and even then, the courses have to be approved for honors points on “pathways”?

Well, the honors point are for AP classes. I haven’t seen anything that says otherwise against using the capped weighted GPA.

You are exactly right; weighted points for AP classes.
