Ok so this year I am rank 1, but I'm worried about next year. I'm taking 4 APs and 2 college courses, which don't count as high school credit. This other guy who is rank 1 also this year is taking 1 college course, and either 4 APs/1 regular, or 5 APs. Will my class rank drop down, since college courses don't count as high school credit, and will mess my rank up?

you will drop down, to number 2. maybe instead of one of the college courses you can take an online AP?

online courses are not offered at my school

what state

California

oh can't help you then. you should talk to your guidance counselor and see what you can do.

What grade are you? If you're a Junior you get to apply to colleges as rank 1 still.

If he takes 4 APs and 1 regular class, you'll be ahead. If it's 5 AP classes, you'll be number 2. Only if they're weighted and your rannk is based on weighted GPA.

^assuming they both get straight A's.

but i would still rather have your schedule than the other person's.

you could go to a virtual school in other state (yes, some do accept people from other states, but check first with your counselor) and then take an extra AP class either now or during the summer.

It really depends on how your school calculates GPA and rank.

But honestly, I wouldn't worry about dropping from 1 to 2, because guess what? The different between 1 and 2 is NO BIGGER than the difference between 2 and 3, or 3 and 4, or even (OMG!) 97 and 98. It's not that big of a difference. You really don't need to be worried.

wow srsly u need to stop being so uptight. being number 1 vs number 2 will NOT make a diff. In fact just make sure your are somehwere in the top 1-2 % of your class ( unless of course u goto a super competitve school)

Question: I'm a sophomore, and i'm ranked in the top 42%, I Know it's horrible but my school's super competitive too...asssuming that I get straight A's from this point on, could i bump into the top 15% by junior year?!

The difference between 1 and 2 is nothing. My sister has a friend who was ranked 3rd (technically she was 6th since we had 4 valedictorians). She got into Harvard right away. My sister was friends with all the valedictorians and 3, I think, applied. Only one got in, after being waitlisted. So the difference between 1 and 2 or 1 and 3 does not matter. It's the other stuff you do.
If you like the challenging courses, take them. All our valedictorians, our salutatorian, and our 3rd ranked person had taken the same number of APs and Honors and AAs, it was just that the salutatorian had received a B in gym and the 3rd ranked girl, a B in 9th grade English on account of an unfortunate score on a Don Quixote test. But it really doesn't matter.

To take online classes in your state take FLVS, It might cost money for you since your out of state.
