Ok so I gave my counselor the secondary school report form in early December. He said that he sent it in on the 12th of December, but he didn't. So I finally got him to do it again so I could send it in and he gave me an extra copy of it. This is his first year as a counselor (as I told the colleges when I explain why my secondary school report would be late), and he said that he has watched me grow over the past couple years and that he has known me as my counselor during my high school years. Also I have a B+ average and he says my academic achievement is one of the top few encountered in his career. I'm sure he was trying to be nice to make up for the fact that he is doing it late, but blatantly lying about how long he has known me and also saying that I'm in the top few is ridiculous. What should I do? the letter is already sent so I can't have it unsent.

its ok, the people who answered your phone call probably didn't make a record of it anyway....and probably aren't involved in the admissions process

It's his credibility on the line, not yours. Usually you aren't even supposed to see the recommendation, so you won't get in trouble. At worst, the admissions committee will disregard what he wrote and judge you by what else is in the application. Ultimately that's his problem.

Your counselor is doing his job to make you sound like a great candidate. Be grateful... even though he is exaggerating, that's his problem, and not yours. Remember, a counselor is usually your friend... he's not out there to be an enforcer.
