Okay...This my first post on my third account. Anyways, I recently dropped by my guidance counselor to make sure she was doing the midyear reports, and she had them out. I was shocked when I caught a glimpse of the one for Princeton, she had marked the "top 10%" column for nearly everything. That's the third column from the right! I didn't ask her about it, but I'm sure that she did that for every single university, since it wouldn't make sense for her to change it around. I don't understand why she would do this to me, I mean, I've never done anything to offend her and my GPA is around 3.9 with 13 AP classes and 760/800/800/770/800/780 and I promise, my EC's are substantial. I don't think I deserve this, but I have no idea what to do and it's killing me. I feel like I can't confront her about it because I wasn't supposed to be reading the report in the first place. Any advice would be appreciated

if you confront her about it, chances are shell change it for the worse

live with it. a counselor rec isnt going to kill you if your stats really are that high.

don't worry about it, they don't really take into account what is in those boxes, but rather what they write about you.

Even if they did, the rec is from the college counselor, who you probably don't interact with much, versus a teacher, who you log 100+ hours a year with. You seem to be a strong enough candidate that the teachers will have plenty of good things to say about you.

My counselor was awesome, she marked best in her career for each one. I think she might have done that because of a little gift card she got for christmas ;D!...
....jk...she finished the midyear report before christmas...but i'm sure it didn't hurt!

You bribed your guidence counsler with money! In the form of a gift card! You're a terrible evil person!!!! lol jk!

who doesnt bribe their teachers...

those boxes arent important

Also, all cols take into consideration that u may not be on the best of terms with ur GC. So, they look at ur recos. If ur recos (all of em) say AMAZING and explain why but ur GC calls u 'BRAIN AFFEcTED'... they wont pay much attn. to the GC

hahaha...its her bday tomorrow too...guess what she's getting!!

I promise you the counselor reconmmendations don't matter too much. A friend of mine was so upset when her counselor gave her the recommendation to read (after having sent it to all the colleges), and we saw how poorly written, vague, and bland it was. I come from a school with 2000+ students, so it's hard to write a good rec, but this one had all sorts of misspellings (it even misspelled the name of the country my friend comes from). Basically, it was an awful recommendation; the columns were not marked for the best- even though she's in all IB classes and does insane amounts of extracurriculars. The end of the story is that she still got into all the colleges she applied to.

sendtherain
if you dont mind me asking
what schools did your friend get into?
im currently facing the same dilemna (relationship with gc)

that matters not...
Finally, cols realize that u may not be on good terms with ur GC. U may not know her/him etc. The teacher recos are more important...

She got into SMU, Southwestern, Wash U, and USC. And, yes, teacher recs are by far more important.
