On the commonapp, my counselor (also my former English teacher) only ticked good (above average) for my academic achievement, but my two other teachers put me as top 1% for the same category..

Is the fact that my counselor (my former English teacher) thinks I am merely above average going to affect my chances in admissions?

1) you are pretty lucky you got to see your recs lol…

2) and yeah, it will. Although teachers give specific accounts of how you perform in the classroom, counselors give a overall sense of your achievement in the context of your whole grade. Unless you think she rated you unfairly (f.x, if your valedictorian and scored above everyone else on SAT/ACT’s), then theres not much you can do. But I mean the check marks are not the only things colleges look for, and you aren’t limited too much by it

Thanks for the reply.

Indeed I think she rated me unfairly. Is there anything I can do?

i don’t think there’s anything you can do, but i wouldn’t worry much about it. it’s just ONE tick mark; such an insignificant part of your entire application, compared to the rest of the things in it. honestly, don’t stress about this haha. collegeftw, you usually seem to have sort of extreme opinions on things, but i think the op shouldn’t worry about this.

I don’t really think there’s much you can do. Technically, you should not see those recommendation letters. If you do see them, they hold much less merit because the college then assumes your teachers were pressured into giving you a good review. That’s why most people suggest you waive your right to view your letters of rec.

Everyone has faults in their application. I’m sure one thing won’t hurt you too much (:
