If you are "warming up to" the idea of going ot a LAC, check out Dartmouth. It has a very LACish academic feel but comes with a great and active social scene and tremendous resources. Also, like Amherst, Dartmouth is a little more SAT focused than grades to a certain point(Penn is the opposite for example), so I think you have a strong shot. I think you'll like Brown too, don't discount it.

Your stats are excellent. Since you talked about Amherst a little, I feel I can lead you in the right direction. Amherst is a small IVY; and probably harder to get into because of it's enrollment size (@413 per year). What a great school!! My daughter and I have visited twice, and she is applying ED to major in Biology with a minor in dance. Brown has become her second choice; and not a close second at that! Amherst has so much to offer their students; small class size with lots of individual attendtion, awesome faculty ans staff who care about undergraduate students, lotsa of research opportunities for students, great facilities and campus, and the list goes on and on! You're headed in the right direction with Amherst.

from what ive heard at my school
UCLA is cake...ive done no research to support this claim
i might be wrong in saying so but i think public schools are generally easy to get into b/c all they look at is your GPA and SAT. they do so because of the volume of applications they get...its impossible for them to check all the stats completely.

Thanks guys, even more help coming still.

And yes, Suze is right, I knew of that rule.

If you want me to define "can easily obtain residency," what I meant was that there is already a house for me, and that I would immediately move in, and be burdened with a year of out of state tuition I guess.

Ultimately, it will come down to talking to the registrar and housing people if I decide to go there. UCSD is just a choice, probably won't end up there.

Thanks for the warning Suze.

One other good thing I should mention.

At my school I've been one of the only people allowed to take AP Psychology before junior year, and AP Calculus before senior year.

I'm two years ahead in math at my school.

bumpity bump bump.

swarthmore does really good with the score types ...also U chicago

williams is also a legit lac ... keep in mind that out of all three only swarthmore offers a engi degree

Thanks. I am actually thinking of going into medicine, or meteorology.

What is the best for science? And what's your projection for their decision on me?

I feel you would competitive in all especially U chicago

Now that you've got a respectable list of colleges to look at, think very carefully about whether they will fit you done the road. You might almost want to have two lists - great for medicine and great for meteorolgy. Maybe you will know by the time you apply - but it may take until spring of your senior year (if then) which path is the right one.

Especially at these highly selective schools, fit is, I believe, a factor in admissions.

I hope that you will be able to do at least a couple of college visits this fall. If you can't travel far, visiting a LAC and mid-size uni close to home will at least give you sense of what you prefer. Also, visit a tech school if you can - they are a whole other species.

I will not stand for being off the first page already.

Any other helpful opinions?

If I go to Amherst or some hot school, how much aid am I looking at? By that I mean non-need based, I'm not getting need based.

Are there any great schools that would be a reach, but change to a match if I apply ED? Or match changing to safety?

Bump.............

I'd say you can get into better schools if you get your GPA this year up to a 4.0. definitly consider some ivys

Thanks, tell me where it would be worthwhile to apply ED.

with those kind of stats, i would apply ED to princeton. you deff have a shot if u improve that gpa now

How much do I need to improve the GPA? What does it need to be?

And would this make Princeton a match?

I'm looking for an Ivy to apply to that would be rendered a match rather than reach by applying ED.

I could never ask for a safety Ivy, that would be arrogant and such an Ivy is probably non-existent.

not by much, i mean with a 2340 sat...
make ur uw gp around a 3.7-3.8 then id say u have a very good chance. i know somone with 1430 sats and a 97 avg who got a free ride to princeton so u got a great chance
