My D got Merit aid!

I am always happy to hear about where kids got merit aid -so I thought I would share.
My D has 31 ACT and a 3.5 unweighted GPA -about a 4.0 weighted. Almost no EC’s. Her GC also wrote in her reccomendation letter about a serious illness she had that limited her participation in EC’s for Freshman and Sophomore year. However -she still doesn’t really do much outside of school except for work. Truthfully even if she hadn’t gotten sick -she wouldn’t have participated in sports.
She got the biggest scholarship from Agnes Scott (24K including some money given to GA residents to equal HOPE)
Salem College (18) Warren Wilson (10) and Elon (6)
She has been invited to scholars weekend for Agnes and Salem to possibly get a bit more.

Congrats!!!

Yay to the veruca family

Thanks everyone. I know I was always curious to hear what schools were giving out merit money to A/B students. I wasn’t sure how much her lack of EC’s would hurt her at this level of school. There is money for the kid who isn’t a joiner.

Her ACT score and GPA put her a bit above a typical A/B student, esp in light of serious illness. She will do well, and good for the parent and student figuring out the college ‘deals’/opportunities for the student.

Thanks !

Congratulations! I have a friend who teaches at Agnes Scott. Based on what she says, I think it’s a great school.

Great news! You might want to be sure to find out, for each scholarship:

  • if the aid is guaranteed renewable each year and if so upon what terms (i.e. GPA, service work, etc.), -credit hours to be taken, if relevant, even the first semester (i.e. anything full time, or must be 16 hours, etc.)
  • if the amount increases or decreases with increased tuition each year or receipt of outside scholarship (respectively)

A chart of these things will be helpful as you begin to compare the offers regarding the scholarships piece.

Congrats to your daughter and family!

Thanks -will do that

Great news! Hoping those merit awards bring the net price in range for your daughter!

Whoop whoop!! Congrats to your kiddo!!! Best of luck as she continues!!!
