Hasn't borrowing way beyond our means caused enough problems already?

It is not like these parents are taking away a chance to go to any college...just a college that they cannot afford. A cheaper college does not necessarily mean a bad college. I don't believe in "Harvard at any price." If you can't afford Harvard, then you can do quite well in life at UC Davis (not to pick on UC Davis, but I know a very successful UC Davis alum).

"the most precious thing your child can have in her life "

What might that be?

Im assuming if and when my kids decide to have children, they will have health coverage and jobs.
:)

Most precious is a bit of an exaggeration, but providing a college education for your child is a benefit that can change the course of a person's life (and the lives of his or her children)...not only in a financial way, but in intangible ways also.

Get ready for some tears.

The problem with long threads like these is that newer posters don't bother to read the whole thread and then the same discussions come up that have already been answered by the OP. The OP has since the first post discussed the costs of college with her daughter, daughter understands and now she's looking at different schools.

Then except for spam and assuaging guilt, this thread is done? Time to move on and deal with other pressing issues like world peace!

What happened to the OP?
