My daughter (incoming freshman) got Union Street Center for her on campus residence. Any feedback?

Hey friends! My daughter found out last night that she and her roommate got a 2 bedroom in Union Street Center. She stayed there for orientation and liked it but was wondering if anyone had any additional info on it since it’s not a traditional dorm. Just want to make sure she is able to interact with other freshman students and make friends since we are out of state (Massachusetts). Thanks in advance!!

On IU Parent FB posts there have been several parents commenting that their student got assigned US despite not requesting it and they are concerned about premium pricing. Did your student list US as a preference and also enhanced housing. People seem to be struggling to figure out how their student got assigned there. It was always upperclassmen housing prior to the mold crisis and lawsuit that impacted housing inventory. Like any residential situation, it depends on the student how friendly or interactive their dorm set up might be. My IU alum son lived there his sophomore year and by then most had their friend groups or linked through their majors or programs. This is the first year it will be a freshman residence.

All dorms are Freshman dorms this year. So meeting other Freshman shouldn’t be a problem. In fact, US the way I recall its setup, it may be better for socialization as there are separate living and sleeping areas. Like hanging out in the family room at home. Oh, and there is a Pizza X across the street – best breadsticks in town. Enjoy.
