I received my decision on Monday. It’s not a rejection but it’s not a straight up acceptance. I actually don’t know what to call it because I’ve never heard of this happen at U of M. I’m pretty sure it’s because I have the HAIL scholarship for full tuition, but basically they’re sending me to Dearborn for the first year and then if I maintain a 3.0 GPA, I get transferred to Ann Arbor? Is this because they didn’t have spots available at Ann Arbor? If that’s the case, then don’t they reject people in that instance?? From what I’ve been told so far, because they offered me the HAIL, they didn’t want to reject me and so to compensate for thr lack of space, they’re sending me to Dearborn where I’m still technically a “umich student” but then I get guaranteed admission for the transfer in 2017.
Does umich do this often? Can someone give me more information on this? Also some advice and info on Dearborn would be greatly appreciated as I originally did not have plans for Dearborn but now it seems like I have only about a week to commit! Thank you!!
My daughter is in the same difficult position… It’s a good position, better than a reject. As I understand this there are only a select few kids that were offered this option. The official welcome packages are supposed to be mailed soon. Where are you from? We visited the campus, my daughter likes it but it is very small, mostly a computer campus, but they do have some very nice apartments (no dorms) close, that she would stay at if she decides. On campus food is limited, not available on weekends.
If you are female, and looking for a room mate maybe you can contact us…
Is this HAIL scholarship for disadvantage kids or something? Why did kids with so much accomplishments get nothing while other kids couldn’t make the cut got the scholarship? Makes me confused and a little angry.
The kids are still held to high admission standards and only get the scholarship “if admitted”. Many are high achieving leaders, highly involved at their schools, many have also got admission offers from other schools too!
Which school, Did they get the full tuition too? Maybe since this is a new program U of MI looks at different criteria including particular schools, and weights them differently in their “holistic” process…
I got the HAIL scholarship. It’s for students who fall at or below the poverty line (according to my GC. The paper just said for “less fortunate students”) and wouldn’t be able to afford attending without the scholarship. Obviously my view is biased, but don’t get angry that those who wouldn’t be able to go without it get a full tuition scholarship while those who can afford it but might be better students don’t. I think Michigan should give more and larger scholarships, though. But I will say that if I didn’t get it, I probably would end up at MSU.
Congrads. woah16. Are you at going to AA? I agree, you can’t assume all lower income students aren’t brilliant, unique or deserving…Diversity can be defined in many ways…It’s a tough decision for my D because it’s not at Ann Arbor to start…
