Hello Im a Vietnamese senior student with an American dream. i have quite good stats: 9/10 GPA , 2300 SAT 1, 8.0 Ielts, rank 2 in the class for the gifted, good EC. I plan to take SAT subject tests this Nov. Ive always worked hard to reach an US school someday!
But according to some info, my EFC is 0 (my parents earn about $15k/year). So how does that affect my chances of getting admitted and getting a full ride? What is the best EFC for an international student? How important EFC is to need-aware schools? (I honestly dont think I cant get into needblind ones, aka Ivy League and the like)
Also Ive fallen in love with Furman university. It grants 4 full ride per year. Does anyone know what Furman’s policy is? I mean, some say it’s need-aware without meeting full demonstrated need while others say it meets full financial need?
Thank you! It would mean a lot to me!
Congrats on your good numbers! I would suggest that you need to specifically look at what financial aid colleges give to “international students.” It won’t matter that your EFC is 0 if the school doesn’t offer any financial aid to international studetnes. Same with the “full rides.” You need to find out if international students are even eligible for those…I have my doubts. Most schools look to international students as deep pockets who will be willing to pay the full cost for the benefit of going to a US school. There was a list on CC (you will have to do a search) of what schools offer aid to international students. Best of luck!
I don’t know exactly what to tell you, but my EFC is 0 too, and I am happy to see that you are doing very well. Keep up the good work and google/search for international students full rides or full tuition colleges
Section H2 of their Common Data Set shows Furman only met 80% of need. https://furman.app.box.com/s/dyrrrfia9xh2qfyipul9ynfgw9m3f166 No, they don’t meet full need.

EFC would be very important to schools that are need-aware for int’ls.
The best EFC for int’ls would be a high one where they can be full pay. lol
Being a low income int’l needing a full ride means that there is only a small chance that you’ll get admitted to a school that meets your need.
One reason why many schools are need-aware for int’ls or don’t give need-based aid to int’ls is that those schools do not have the time or means to verify the international financials of int’ls.
@CValle thank you! Just found that list!
@Erin’s Dad : thanks!
@mom2collegekids yea I see. Gotta try hard for this tho! Thanks!
@Rob248 ya thankss! How are you doing with that? Are you in college already or still at highschool?? Its rare to find one with the same EFC HEHEEHE!
Not true @mysweetpea . There are many international students with very low incomes who want to,study in this country.
@thumper1 hmm excuse me but did I say anywhere that there are not?

@GMTPLUS7 yeah financial support in this case means borrowed money. We can easily borrow them and pay later without any bank beaucracy, profit and all. Thats what I mean its not like we have undeclared income or anything. I told u there and u just did not listen.
