My father has no legal rights towards me and I don't know his info... what to write?

On the common app, it says, "Please list the adults who have legal rights and responsibilities toward you." Well, my mother has full custody and my father does not have any visitation rights towards me. He recently lost his job as well, so child support stopped and he sporadically sends checks here or there when he feels like it. I don't know his info (i.e. address, phone number, email, employer [if any]), so what do I hit, "Unknown"? I tried to enter father and then at least put his name, but it requires all the other fields (which I do not know), UNLESS you pick Unknown. So do I choose unknown and then just specify further on the specific supplemental applications???

I was in this boat, but my schools don't use the Common App. I did not provide any information on my biological father on my apps. I would put unknown.

Yeah, put unknown, or nothing at all since he doesn't have any legal rights towards you. Would it let you put nothing at all without putting unknown? If not, then yeah... unknown.

Because your father pays child support, he still has a legal responsibility toward you.

You might as well put down the information, because child support even if it has stopped due to unemployment consititues contact and the child support will have to be reported when you file the FAFSA/CSS profile. It is always better to tell the truth even if you have to add an addendum to explain your extenuating circumstances because willful or intentional misrepresentation of your application is ground for having your admissions rescinded (even your degree leaving you with a worthless piece of paper).
