^ Referring to college applications. I don't know his current job, his location. I'm sure he's alive but everything else is blank. The Common App requires all this current info that I don't have. What should I do?

Maybe something like :

N/A.

Or, ask the other parental.

N/A sounds like the most appropriate idea. I doubt it would make a big difference unless your father is a senator or something.

I had the same problem on mine.
I tried everything, but I just ended up putting down an obviously nonexistent address and mentioned in the additional information section that I didn't really know where my dad was, and that I should be contacted if any problems exist.

All right, I'll just include the info in the Additional Info section and put some random address.

Thanks!

Don't put a random address- just leave it blank or put N/A.

The common app doesn't seem to allow it ...

In the end, I just listed my father's data as "unknown", as opposed to "father", because from my point of view he hasn't been much of a father anyway.

Last year I simply typed NA for everything. I also informed the financial aid office at my school of such, and they had absolutley no problem with it.

My question is do they mind if I ended up listing my second guardian type as "unknown" just so the common app would stop bugging me about the errors? I put my father's (OR FALSE FATHER/SCUMBAG/etc.) info in that slot where I knew it.

Sorry, I do not remember the specifics. It seems like almost an eternity since I filed it, and I try to repress the memory. What exactly are the errors you are coming across, as I do remember selecting father and then just typing NA for everything like address and such (evidently I filled in age, name, etc.)?

I had the same issue.

I know his name so I put that in, but for address/occupation I put in "Unknown" and for zip code I put in 00000 because they require a numeric response. For email I think I did unknown@unknown.com

Then in the additional information space I explained that I didn't know or have any way of finding out the information.

The Common App won't allow you to submit it if the major information about your parents is left blank.

My GC said this was kind of the only way and that as long as you explain it, it's okay since Adcoms understand that not everyone has a nuclear family.
