My goal is for grad school...what about undergrad

Right now im still debating over my college choices for undergrad
between
Reed College, Cal, and UC Davis

I'm 100% set on the fact that I want to go to grad school and eventually get my PHD. I also have always dreamed of going to one of the top engineering schools for grad, such as cal, stanford, mit

Is it better for me to go to davis now, just so undergrad doesnt kill my chances of getting into my true dream schools?

Which field?

Doesn't Reed have one of the highest future-PhD-per-capita rates of any school in the country?

Why would it be a bad choice?

enigneering, civil/structural

Reed, I visited it there and talked to alot of the students, and they all said that reed is bad if you want to go to grad school. About that the majority of the students do not graduate in 4 years, and the philisophy at reed (which i love, but not for me i dont think), which is learn for learning not for grades. And how students do not know their grades unless if they are failing and other similiar stories.

Cal is a terrific school from an academic standpoint, you can't go wrong with it.

Both UC will prep you well for grad school - you do an edge in Berkeley if and only if you do well there.

Don't be so certain - I was there. :) Why so set about PhD? Is becoming an engineering professor your career goal?

Not to dis Davis, but I've seen research from Berkeley and Davis, and the projects at Berkeley are just a lot cooler than many from Davis. Since you will need to do undergrad research to get to one of the top UCs, I think you have a better shot at finding something you like at Cal.
