The clubs at my school are pretty much non-existent. I can’t really make my own club because my peers wouldn’t want to join them (trust me I have tried). This means I can’t join the clubs such as Key club, Debate club, and other great clubs. There also aren’t a lot of opportunities relating to college in my high school. No internships with local companies, science fair competitions, or anything. What should I do for extracurriculars in order to build my resume for college?
Anything you do outside of your schoolwork would count as an EC – it does not have to be done with your HS. My S’s biggest EC had nothing to do with his high school You can volunteer in you community (church, hospital, soup kitchen, retirement home, library…anything you find interesting). In addition, a part-time job would count as an equivalent to an EC. Colleges want to see applicants who are interested and involved outside of the classroom and there are many ways to do that.
Volunteering is a great suggestion. We might be able to brain storm some ideas if you give us an idea of your interests.
