I got a 590 on Biology and 650 in Literature and both have been sent to NYU, Uoft, Boston University, Harvard and Colombia. how bad will this hurt my chances? I have a 3.67 GPA and got a SAT composite of 1920. What do I do? Are my chances screwed up?
There’s nothing you can do. Given your GPA and SAT score, Harvard was a super high reach anyway.
Colleges place MORE emphasis on a student’s GPA because it’s a 3-YEAR WINDOW into their academic drive and scholastic potential, whereas the SAT test (and SAT Subject tests) are a 3-hour window into those same things.
According to Harvard’s Common Data Set, 87% of admitted freshman had an unweighted 3.75 GPA or higher, so your GPA is going to be your achilles heel and not your low SAT Subject Test scores. Your GPA, however, is in line with BU and NYU, so I don’t think your low SAT 2 scores will matter much to those college’s.
Your SAT 2 scores were entirely in line with your SAT and well under the typical scores of successful applicants at Harvard and Columbia. Your chances at those two schools are no worse than they would be absent the SAT 2 score reports.
I agree 100% with tdy123. I wouldn’t worry about it.
