My Junior Year Schedule at TJHSST

Hey people,

I go to TJHSST and I'm going to be a junior next year and this is my current schedule:

Precalc

English

World Hist/Geo II

AP Chemistry

PE

AP Computer Science

Spanish 3

I am interested in chemistry and nanotechnology, so I plan on taking those types of electives next year. This is my tentative schedule for junior year.

AP Calc BC

English

APUSH

Organic Chem, Bionanotechnology

AP Spanish Lang

Artificial Intelligence 1,2

AP Physics

I know it's pretty tough, but I'm trying to see if I can switch AP Spanish Lang for something else, like AP Stat. Thoughts?

It’s TJ. The schedule is already rigorous. If you want to switch to AP Stat, switch it.

Oh how lucky you are to be able to go there/live near there :(

AP Spanish at TJ (combined with APUSH, AP Physics, and AP Calc) sounds like it would be a bit too much to handle Junior year. I had to switch out of AP Spanish myself because 4 APs were way too much all together…and I can’t imagine how tough that would be at TJ. Stats seems like a good way to go  Good luck

This is what the average TJ kids’ course load - normal.

^ True ****.

Hey guys, thanks so much for commenting on my post!

So you guys think AP Stat > AP Spanish Lang? It would be great to hear from someone who took either of these courses at TJ. Also, I heard that 4 years of a language looks good, but any additional input is appreciated.

I think tjkid2011 is from your school.

spanish lang would be better, its better to have a more diverse curriculum. but most importantly, a’s and 5’s on the ap classes. also, nanotech does not require stats as much as you would need calculus and most schools you will apply to will be a general study.

Hey so, I’m also considering AP Bio, but the workload might be too much.

what is TJ?

^ Consistently ranked #1 high school in the nation.

TJman…I graduated from TJ and took both AP Span. Lang. and AP Stats. AP Span as a junior and AP Stats as a senior. Do you really think you are ready for AP Span? I know so many kids do the jump from Span. 3 to AP. I did Span. 4 before taking AP Span. I really wanted to be as prepared as possible for the AP Span. test when I took it. Having that extra year of Spanish really helped me. I am very comfortable with using Spanish in different settings and I plan on doing a semester abroad in Spain.

Sorry for this really late response, but @2ndof3, I think I would do pretty well considering I have an A with Sra. Whitten no sweat, and I know a few people taking AP Spanish net year that are worse than me. I was focusing more on the workload of the two classes. If anyone knows how much work/how difficult either Spanish or Stat is, PLEASE respond.

Thanks.

Depends how good you think you’ll be with physics because usually the BC Calc kids dont fare as well as the MultiVar kids and ap physics is likely to run your life all year regardless. AP Spanish is also a heavy workload class and I dont remember any kids taking both of them at the same time. It depends if you’re already the 4.4ish student with straight A’s breezing through classes or a little closer to the norm. Consider taking an elective related to your senior techlab perhaps but I’d suggest going with Stat as its definitely easier than Spanish.

I’d take AP Spanish, and self-study Stat.
