Here is my schedule for my junior year in high school (hopefully):
Honors English 11
AP World History
Honors Algebra 2
AP Biology
AP Physics, calculus based
Anatomy and Physiology
AP Psychology
My current sophomore schedule:
Honors Geometry
Honors Chemistry
Honors Physics
Honors Health
Ceramics
Honors English 10
AP NSL Government
I think my current Honors Physics teacher recommended AP Physics without knowing my math level. Although I’m getting through Hon Physics while in Geometry (even though the prereq is Algebra 2), the prereq for AP Physics is Precalculus so I’m wondering if I should a) drop AP Physics and take Forensics or b) take Algebra 2 over the summer and take precalc concurrently with AP Physics. I was already planning to take algebra 2 over the summer to get back on the level of math that most of my peers are on. I plan on majoring in Animal Science after high school if that helps
I think I might drop AP Physics, take Algebra 2 over the summer and take AP Chem junior year.
AP Physics C requires concurrent enrollment in AP Calculus, certainly not precalc or algebra 2!
I would take Algebra 2 over the summer and then AP Bio and/or AP Chem in junior year and AP Calculus and AP Physics in senior year.
Okay, thx @goldenbear2020 Although I probably won’t go into anything physics dense, I thought Astronomy would be a cool science elective to take senior year. I wish I did better in math during middle school, it would have opened up a lot more science opportunities for me now.
You can’t take AP Physics Calculus based if you haven’t taken calculus (or aren’t taking it concurrently). You CAN however take AP Physics Algebra based (typically called 1 or 2).
Did you forget your foreign language? You’ll need a minimum of 3 years for any selective college, and 4 years/AP for very competitive ones.
Suggested modified schedule:
Honors English 11
AP World History
Honors Algebra 2
AP Biology
AP Physics, calculus based=> replace with AP Physics 1 or 2
Anatomy and Physiology => replace with a foreign language
AP Psychology
@MYOS1634 I got French credits throughout middle school and dropped it after freshman year because I loathed it. Also, according to my school’s course sheet there is only Honors Physics and AP Physics (Mechanics, calc based) so I’m guessing AP Physics 1 & 2 was replaced with Honors.
If you hated French, you could take another language, but you’ll need to reach a minimum level for college entrance (which is different from HS graduation requirements) and, often, for college graduation (different from minimum level for college entrance). So, either one more year of French, or three years of Spanish, Latin, or Italian. Since you’re a sophomore, the “other language” option would require you to take Level1 over the summer.
You’re right, at some schools, AP Physics 1&2 is Honors Physics to avoid confusion with the calculus based class, or because that’s the way it was before Physics B was turned into AP Physics 1 and 2.
Honors Physics is good - you need to have 1 each of bio, chem, and physics, but there’s no requirement those should be AP or even Honors.
@MYOS1634 Let me clarify. I took French 1 and 2 in 7th and 8th grade. Then I took Honors French 3 in 9th grade. I received credits for all of the years I took French so I have 3 world language credits. I then dropped it for sophomore year because I knew I wanted to do more science so I am now taking Honors Chemistry and Honors Physics concurrently.
It looks like you won’t need AP Physics C for your major, so I would go with AP Bio and AP Chem for junior/senior years (in whichever order).
Ok then you do have your minimum FL credits - it’s rare that middle school credits are counted as equal to HS credits, and typically 2 years in MS =1 year in HS, just like 1year in HS can be (a most) 1 semester in college - often, Level 1&2 in HS = Level 1 in college, so that you cover 2 years’ worth over one semester. The pace is intense to brutal and thus it’s better to have the basic requisite FL credits in HS.
If you switch Physics C for Honors Physics, you’re all ready to go.
