I just received a 2070 on the SAT (720-Math 710-Writing (FREAKING 8 Essay) 640-CR)

How in the world did I receive such a low Reading score? I reallyyy thought I got at least a 670 what happened? I have done every single Blue Book test how can I prepare for the June 1 test? I feel really discouraged I even promised my parents I would get a 2100 first time and then slowly raise it to 2200 and now my break will be not so fun. 5 days before Christmas I have a poop SAT score.... :((

Please tell me how to cope with disappointing scores without going crazy

I scored the same as you! I don’t know what’s up with the scores, I’ve never in ALL the practice tests I’ve taken gotten less than 750 in writing and I scored way lower, I don’t get it at all. It makes no sense. It wasn’t even hard when I was doing it. I’m actually confused! Hoping I’m one of the those people who will score much better on the act as it’s the only one I can do now as I have to disregard my crap sat!!

Don’t get discouraged, scores can fluctuate like CRAZY. In general though, you’ll get a better score every time you take it. I got a 2120 first time, then 2190, then 2260. Reading has always been my lowest section by far until today. Dude the fact that I got a 770W last time (12 essay), and a 680W this time (9 essay) just proves that the SAT is soo random. Don’t be too worried, you’ll have several more opportunities and you don’t really even need to study unless you want to go overkill

I know right?? I can’t believe I’m ranting at 5:30am but looks like I’m studying the ACT too. I’m almost for sure I only got 2 wrong on the Writing MC and got a 74 MC so the curve must have been ■■■■■■■■ or something! College Board ruined Christmas. (jk) ;P

the curve has to be crazy as I usually do really well in CR and W, fluke I guess. And sat128 is right, the fluctuations are so random and crazy it’s crazy that a test like this determines people’s futures. Fingers crossed for the act. Christmas is ruined! :P

Standardized testing is just lame! I heardd ACT Reading is easier with less time. I’m retaking the SAT June 1 and the taking the ACT…I hate those people that don’t need to prepare.

Thanks @SAT128 that made me feel a little better :)

I’m shocked! I scored 720 last time, and I thought I was going to get 750+ on this test. I don’t understand how I got 640… I’m considering using score verification possibly. But I feel you!

Yeah I did pretty bad this time. My score compares nowhere near to my practice test scores. Seems like many people are disappointed with their scores? @legionpower, do you think score verification would help much?

Although I scored higher on the SAT. That score is not so bad. I know people who are dying to have that score. Yes reading is a *****, It was my lowest, a 620. But I still got into one of the most prestigious universities. Your scores actually depend on your major, I’m majoring in engineering so my high math score really made way for me. If you are not in your senior year, you still have time to work on your scores and get some killer subject tests, however if you are, most deadlines are on jan 1 so you will have to contact your college and tell them your scores will be running a little late.

I’m not a college confidential regular but going through this website makes me sick. People here freaking out about a freaking 2070? I’d be ecstatic about receiving that kind of score. I spent weeks and weeks studying for the SAT and many days pushing myself to the best of my abilities only to have the exact same score as I got last time, a 1810. So don’t complain about a 2070 being a low score. An 1810 isn’t even a low score. I’m just extremely disappointed that I didn’t improve one bit.

@legionpower woo same scores! Would score verification help at all? I really thought I got around a 680 so I was pretty shocked with this 640 @terrier Maybe it just depends on the test or we were calmer during practice tests! Practice tests lie…

@lelyke Thanks! But you do have to consider that I am Asian! I’m majoring in business so CR would be sorta important?

@lulzchan Hey I spent weeks studying too (mainly over the Summer)! It’s just low compared to the average scores of schools I want to apply to like Emory.

Low? A 2070 on the SAT? Are you kidding me? That’s phenomenal! You’d rapidly get accepted by most of the colleges you apply to with that score. I don’t know how on earth you would consider such a score low, unless you are planning for admission into Harvard or the like.

Hey, chill. A 2070 is most definitely not a bad score, especially if it was your first time taking it. You have a solid six months until June; just being in school will help your scores go up. I took the sats in January and got a 2090, then retook (with absolutely no prep) in may and got a 2270. Relax.

This exact same thing happened to me on the December ACT. After I finished the English section, I was almost 100% confident I scored AT LEAST a 32 (took 5 different practice tests and I was scoring in the 31-34 range in English).

I got my scores back and found out I scored a 26 on English. So confused…to the point where I am also considering whether I should have my test regraded…
