My math score is embarassingly low.

On the May SAT, I got a 530 on the math section. I studied, too - not as much as I could/should have, but (what I felt was) enough. I got a 53 on the PSAT math section as well, so I literally had no improvement.

I'm very happy with my CR score (730) and W is fine (650), but I really do need to get that math score up. I'm not aiming for top colleges (a couple more selective LACs, but certainly nothing in the Ivy League or like that). I don't have money for an SAT prep class, the two books I have are "10 Real SATs" and the Blue Book. Is there another book I should get to help me with Math? My big problem is that I omit a lot of questions because I have no idea even how to attempt them - I just don't know what I'm doing on the concepts!

How do I get that darn score up?

EDIT: Also, is the ACT worth a shot? Would it perhaps be easier or more forgiving on the score? I'm going into Calculus and have received nothing but As, if that helps...

I have the same problem so hopefully people will contribute beneficial advice...

don't memorize the formulas except for the most important ones...you can figure most by looking at the problem and going about it logically.

plug everything in...start with C, if too big go to B, if too small go to D, etc.

use your calculator to your advantage...if in doubt, graph & calculate to eliminate answers

when stuck with a hard question just think to yourself "what are they testing me on? what do they want me to prove that i know?" and go from there

i got an 800 first time using this system of test taking (and obviously my brain since it wasnt just luck
