I don't feel completely comfortable sending my college essay to people via the internet, so I was wondering if I just outline it, if anyone could give me some advise on the topic and such. thanks, my school isn't that awesome at helping out with essays....and I will be submitting this via the common app(it is he choice your own topic) to 1 or two ives, and some other top schools.

The topic of my essay is hunting. I am from a small town with a lot of farms and am pretty involeved with outdoor actvites, like farming and hunting...I thought, and was hoping this might make a white male unique. It just talks about my first hunting experience and how I realized that hunting isnt wrong, but allowed be to connect be further with nature. But it isnt sappy, just pretty real.

That is pretty much it, I don't mention academics, or a passion for learing at all. Just hunting and my change in attitude. I know that you can't really judge an essay, without reading it....but I think it is written decently, and was wondering if the topic was good enough for competive schools? Thanks.

Sounds sincere -- which is good. No need to be dramatic or earth shattering, just allowing the reader to get another "slice" of you -- that's the end goal. Best of luck to you

anyone else? I am kinda concerned because my teachers, who I showed it to, thought it was well written but that hunting was not an appropriate topic for an admission essay. I disagree...but, who knows? Any thoughts please?

I think if it is tasteful and describes you (not the kill per se) then it should be fine. Hunting, although not politically correct for some, is not illegal.

Ok...now I am sort of getting paranoid. My essay is about the first time I went hunting, so it talks about my transition from being against hunting...to going hunting...to killing an animal...to feeling guilty...to realizing that hunting is not wrong and allows me to become part of nature

It is not untasteful...I don't talk about the death of an animal of anything, just how I changed. Will admissions people think this is unethical and wrong, I would assume that most admissions people would be against hunting? Ahhh, now I am worried. Any advise?
