Well, i have a 3.9 gap; i have a 1910 sat score and i have nice extracurriculars. i thought i had a pretty good chance of getting in but recently, i got a 69 in ap bio .... (3rd marking period. If averaged with the other ap bio grades in the 2nd and 1st marking periods, i have an 80). I did well on everything else! either A's or A-'s .

Will this prevent me from getting in? i applied for RD.

How long is each marking period for you? In my school, the first 2 marking periods is the first semester, and those grades are the ones that are averaged out in the mid year report.

3 marking periods is a semester. and the thing is that my school sends our report cards for the mid year report. So the 69 shows. Will that matter??

It matters; but with your gpa and other stuff, you probably have enough good things to counteract it. I was in the same boat as you (exact same score but with only a 3.4) so I decided to take the SAT again. Perhaps call or email the admissions counselor that judges for your area and try to stand out.

thanks man, i really appreciate the input. it really helps to see that other people went through the same thing and did fine; again, i really appreciate it. Hopefully everything works out.

Does your school average it out? I’m sorry to compare your school to mine, but if they average it out, they won’t see the 69, just the complete 80.

But seriously, one bad grade isn’t going to harm your entire application! Your SAT is in the middle 50, your GPA is amazing, and your grades are fine.

they don’t average it out when it’s sent . i asked my counselor and she said she sent my report card so they see all of it. And thanks man. I really appreciate the input; it means a lot !

I wouldn’t stress out. The school will also realize that it’s a single 69 over a short marking period, and all your other grades are still good. If you had that score in everything, you might want to start getting concerned, but at this point, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
