My mother threw away my acceptance letter.

UT was my safety school, but now it's where I really want to go. I got in way back in early January and showed my mother my acceptance letter. She said, "didn't you already know you were going to get in." Thanks to that comment I went to my room and cried b/c I thought she'd be really happy it being my first acceptance and all, and then I got it in my head that UT wasn't a good enough school and applied to eight other colleges, all of which don't start giving out acceptance letters until march and april and who knows when they'll tell me what kind of financial aid package I'd get if I am accepted. Looking at that timeline and now that I've had time to realize that my mother doesn't know what the heck she's talking about b/c UT is great, I've decided UT is the place for me and I went to get my acceptance letter to read about the steps I should take for enrollment. That's when I discovered my mother threw my acceptance letter in the garbage about a month ago. Do I need to request a new one or would I be able to find out how to enroll on their website? If I do need to request a new acceptance letter what would be the best way to go about doing this? Should I phone and have an excuse ready, b/c I really don't want to say my mother threw it in the garbage, but I think I could come up with something to say if I really need to. Also, will it be difficult for them to get me a new one, and regardless of that will they be annoyed?
I know my ID and password and I was accepted to the school of communications, pre-journalism if that helps.

You are already accepted, they are not going to recind your acceptance. Do you really care what the admissions person who answers the phone thinks? It is after all a school that enrolls tens of thousands.
Call them tomorrow, you don’t actually need an excuse. An “I need a copy of my acceptance letter” will suffice.

Thank you!!! And yeah, you’re right it doesn’t matter what the person on the other line thinks, just like how I shouldn’t care what my mother thinks of UT!

no, you don’t really need the acceptance letter. but this is what they said for you to do: (1) log in and upgrade your UT EID password at <a href=“UT EID”>www.utexas.edu/eid (select “Change My Password”), (2) pay your enrollment deposit online, and (3) submit your final high school transcript once you’ve graduated. if you know your UT EID, you can log on to your UT application status check and you can do all that from there. Here’s another site that’ll help: [After Admission | Freshmen | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/after-admission/index.html)

after you pay for your enrollment deposit, you can apply for housing and orientation. Good Luck!

The person on the other end of the line will think you are a somewhat less than organized person, hardly a fatal flaw in a young adult.

Good Luck!

Does anyone say “Hook’em Horns” anymore or has that passed into history?

My acceptance letter came with a form I needed to sign and send back for the SoA. Not sure if every school at UT requires you to sign and send a form back and how important it actually is.

BigG -People most DEFINITELY say “HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!” Just ask Colt McCoy, he’ll tell you!

hmf123, you can apply for housing right now if you want to. You can apply for housing as soon as your application is complete. Once you have done your enrollment deposit, you can do a housing deposit and get a housing contract.

No offense or anything but where else did you expect to get in that was better than UT? You only have a 1910 SAT…

Just go online to complete your housing contract(if you plan on staying on campus), and just call admissions office on monday.

foxshox, there were a few out of state schools that my parents were excited about like tulane, rhodes, and such, but no where I was thrilled about. They even got me to apply to Brown, which of course I knew I wasn’t gonna get into. Personally, I don’t think any of the other schools I applied to were better or harder to get into than UT, they have about the same admittance rates so it’s not as if I applied to some really big reaches or anything. Excluding Brown of course.
