My neck is killing me...

From looking down for 3 hours yesterday. Anyone else? I feel like I got bad whiplash.

Haha, I wondered if this happened to anyone else. This was only the second standardized test I've taken (March SAT was the other) so I guess I'm not as conditioned as most people. I went to a concert last night and midway through my back felt like it'd been hit by a train.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. XD

Sure I've taken the state testing, but I'd only taken the SAT I last June and SAT II's last November.

My whole back was aching-neck too... =[

Maybe Asians excel at standardized tests because they are often shorter of stature, meaning that on average they don't need to bend their spines as far allowing less muscle stress and greater blood flow to the brain?

[/racism]

^^I'm not sure if I should laugh or be offended... I'll laugh. Ha ha!

There may be some truth to that... I'm not Asian but I'm short, and neither my neck nor my back are hurting me. Then again, it could be because I'm athletic. Who knows?

combine that with pushing carts at target for a total of 18 hours this weekend and my back + neck are freaking killing me.

oh boy it feels good to sit down in this chair :]]]]]]

MelancholyDane, are you suggesting that short Asian people do well on standardized tests because of their comfortability on a seat? How the **** do you know they're comfortable? Have you asked any short Asians as they take a test? Did you go like, "do you feel comfortable, my short Asian? If you are, I know why Asians, in general, are better than any race in terms of test taking."

Your post is full of ****. Statements like yours can cause a lot of anger; it doesn't matter if you have sample evidence to prove your frivolous point. Nazism was based on Eugenics, and your statement supports it.

Knifey, I had hoped the sheer ludicrousness of my statement would have been enough to dispel any suspicion that I was being serious. I now see that I was wrong. I offer my apologies for any anger my post may have caused you.

That being said, you would do well to keep your temper in the future and avoid comparing strangers on the internet to Nazis. Seriously.

Aww, nobody asked me if I was comfortable! ;)

MelancholyDane, the only people who would take your statement with sarcasm are people who are not offended, because they too make such remarks. I really don't know you nor do I want to, but I really didn't find your statement sarcastic. And even if it was a joke, people can still take it to offense. Successful jokes pertaining to race have a punchline. Where was the punch line in yours?

abrasivealise, I would also like you to represent yourself-not me. Clearly, you made an account to make those first two posts. Uh... MelancholyDane=abrasivealise?

LOL continuing on this line of conversation... although Asians are typically shorter, their upper body/lower body ratio is larger than that of Caucasians (we have longer torsos than legs in comparison to whites). So I think that torso thing balances out with the shortness and there's no net effect :P

Knifey, the people who would "take the statement with sarcasm" are people with basic reading comprehension skills coupled with senses of humour. Based on your continued outrage, you appear to posess neither. Your assertion that all successful jokes have punchlines supports this. There is such a thing as subtle irony, you know.

As for your accusation, you insult my intelligence. If I felt the need to create an alter ego for the purposes of this discussion (and I don't), I would: 1.) not make it so glaringly obvious, and 2.) spell-check my posts.

I re-offer my apology, and I hope you accept it this time. This forum is no place for bickering.

Also, knifey, consider this: if his joke had been directed towards white people instead of Asians, would you have taken offense? I highly doubt it.

When I say punchline, how do you interpret that? All jokes have punchlines, especially ones that have to do with race. How the hell do you offend me in all three of your posts and offer an apology? You don't make the standards for CC nor should you explain to people that your jokes are funny. =] Good bye.

HisGraceFillsMe, actually I was just thinking about that. If he directed this towards whites, would I be offended? Why did I bring up the Nazis in the first place? Use your inference skills like you did for ACT READING. =]

very lame...

I thought you brought up Nazis because you were trying to make a point that white people are evil or something.

Do you know, someone actually told me the other day, "You must be racist because you're white."

Talk about your hypocrisy.

He seriously wasn't trying to offend you, he was just being sarcastic.

Look up Anjelah Johnson...her videos never have punchlines, but it's hilarious. Dane Cook, same thing. Bill Cosby. SAME. THING.

Godwin's Law:

[Usenet] “As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.” There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups. ...

From the jargon file. (<a href="http://catb.org/esr/jargon/html/G/Godwins-Law.html%5B/url%5D">http://catb.org/esr/jargon/html/G/Godwins-Law.html</a>)

Seriously though, invoking the Nazis is a hackneyed rhetorical trick. "Nazism was based on Eugenics" is also not an entirely true statement, it's oversimplication of a complex ideology. I also don't see how MelancholyDane's statement "supports" Eugenics. He's not advocating preventing tall Asians from reproducing so that short Asians will become dominant and allow the Asian race as a whole to do even better on standardized tests, now is he?

I would also argue that bloodflow to the brain probably has more to do with heart rate and other physiological factors than it has to do with height, regardless of the race of the person in question. For that reason, I walk around as much as I can during the breaks on standardized tests.

Also, I'm short-ish (5'3'') and my neck gets pretty stiff while I'm testing.
