My Nigerian Hair is Tougher Than Lil Wayne. Chances please!

Hi! I am a very very nervous rising senior applying to ivies (like half of the ppl on this board lol) and many other colleges

Wish List:
--Yale EA....(if I get in here, I will NOT be applying to anymore colleges...ok maybe just Harvard and UVA)
--Harvard
--Columbia
--Emory
--Duke
--U of Chicago
--Stanford

Reality Check
--UVA
--William and Mary
--George Washington
--Virginia Tech

Anyways, here are my stats

Ethnicity: African American (if you didnt get it from the title)
Location: NOVA..not Fairfax though.
Income: Very very low income; large family; parents did not go to college. dad works crappy job 24/7

GPA: 3.77 (UW) 4.73 (W)
Rank: 2 out of 366
PSAT: 195 (National Achievement Semi-finalist hopefully)

SAT’s: Superscore: 1380/2110, highest composite: 2070 (after 3 retakes.....should i retake in October? I haven't taken any prep classes and the avrg SAT at my school is 200 pts below average! But then again I dont want "Taking the SAT" to be on my list of EC's haha)

ACT: will take in October, hoping for 33-34

SAT II's: 700 Spanish, will be taking US History and English Literature

Course schedule: Very rigorous. IB diploma candidate. Enough said

7 on my IB Spanish exam (SL)

AP’s:
AP World History: 5
AP Euro History: 5
AP English Language: 5
AP Spanish Language: 4...boo hoo
AP Bio: 3 (with good reason)
AP Scholar with Distinction!!! (I’m the first to get this award as a junior; most AP students get 1’s, 2’s, and a few 3’s.)

EC's, Awards, etc.-- relatively strong, but in CC standards, mediocre. I've received mostly school/county awards but a couple national/state ones.
I have a lot of leadership--- I will be Prez of spanish club, and hopefully president of Service Club. I can list on and on award everything I do.....but you never know who is reading your threads hehe.

Mentor for little kids
Over 300 hours of hospital volunteering
P-T job at Burger King (yum)
Harvard Book Award recipient
Governor's summer school (selected, state-wide)
Many many school awards (language student of the year, chemistry awards, etc.)

lmao!!! Im nigerian too and Im been telling my friends that all month. Everything looks good and your reality check is accurate (if that means those are safeties and matches). Personally I think Duke and Chicago are high matches because you are a black male and you seem to have good EC's. But good luck bro!!!

--Yale EA: High high reach, your SATs aren't high enough which is very odd considering your AP scores and GPA
--Harvard: High high reach
--Columbia: Reach
--Emory: Low Reach
--Duke: Reach
--U of Chicago: Low Reach, depends on your essays for UChicago
--Stanford: Reach

Reality Check
--UVA: High Match
--William and Mary: Match
--George Washington: High Safety/Low Match
--Virginia Tech: Safety

Honestly, unless you take a class to help with the SAT, your score isn't going anywhere. Take a class and retake, or just keep your scores now and focus on getting 750+ on two subject tests, which I think would definitely offset your SAT.

I don't think you want to retake your SATs. You really shouldn't take them over three times because colleges will frown upon that. But yes, go on with the ACT and two subject tests.

I think you will easily make it into Emory and all the reality check schools. Stanford is very, very, very tough. But you're still a really good candidate for all the wish list schools and I would encourage you to apply to all of them and dominate those applications.

Most AP students get 1, 2, and 3's huh? LOL. Yeah...OK. I dont think you need to tell us what you think most AP students get...and you are certainly NOT the first Junior to get AP Scholar with Distinction.

If you meant you were the first at your school...then maybe you should actually state that. Stating what you actually mean is rather important...otherwise you sound like you do not know what you're talking about.

nicole would be correct if it werent for the fact that you're African American.

considering your hardships and URM status you stand a chance anywhere.

Hey I'm happy to help out ... but can you do the same for me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html

First off, I don't really like Lil Wayne, but your title still caught my attention ... I like Kanye West more. Anywho, I'm digressing...

Your URM status will help tremendously. The combination of decent grades and a challenging courseload will also help. Your SAT I of 2070 is pretty good as well, and your SAT IIs thus far are pretty good. If you do get that 33 or 34, I would suggest that you also send in the ACT score. Your ECs and honors are also good. You also have some leadership up your belt.

All in all, I think taht you're a good student and you demonstrate potential. No matter where you go I think you will go pretty far in life.

*Chances: *
-Yale/Harvard: Reach (would be far reach if you weren't URM)
-Columbia: Reach
-Emory: Slight reach
-Duke: Slight reach
-University of Chicago: Slight reach
-Stanford: Reach
-UVA IOS: Match
-William and Mary: Match
-George Washington: Match
-Virginia Tech IOS: In

Thanks ab2013! and i will be glad to chance you. Jman21-- Sorry, I was under the assumption that everyone would take the fact that my school's average SAT is 1300/2400 as a hint that I dont go to the most competitive school. So relatively speaking, my AP performance is "excellent" (although many ppl on here will dismiss AP awards as "fluff")

No...I never dismiss anything academically challenging as fluff. Just was giving my opinion. With being an URM you'll have a good shot at many of the schools you mentioned. I'd attempt to raise the SAT score, but you'll still have a shot without a doubt.
