Hello, im now a sophomore and wanting to take the SAT during the winter (maybe january?) of my junior year. I've took the PSATs and got a score of 188. People told me thats 1880 in terms of an SAT score? and my goal is 2200+. Starting this week, im planning to study a little by little like taking a practice test every week / every other week. Solving math problems one day of the week, writing problems another, and reading problems another for about 20-30 minutes a day. I'll try to include reading newspapers and more books everyday. I want to keep doing this until about 3 months before the test date & study harder the last months. Is this a good plan? Am i starting too early? For the SAT book, should I buy the blue collegeboard book? Will I be able to raise to 2200+? I'll be very grateful for any other helpful tips! Thank you very much!

That plan is a bit TOO ambitious and intense, really. Start studying in the summer before junior year and you should be fine.

I think that a 2200+ is certainly achievable, but I have to agree with Kean that its too intense. The worry is that you’ll start this plan and then burn out in a month or two. When its actually a good time to start studying for it, you’ll have negative associations from when you tried to last time, or you’ll blow it off, justifying it with the fact that you already studied.

Of course, I don’t know you personally at all, so I can’t speak to the likelihood of that happening, but that’s probably what I would do. Make sure that this is something that you can actually maintain, and perhaps focus more on your community service and extracurriculars, which will make a bigger difference than 50 points on the SAT.
