My previos thread is starting to **** me off, so here's a new one.

Um. I really have no topic to discuss. I'm just really bored.

Okay, here's one:

I took the SAT 6 times last year and plan to take it another 4 times. Am I pushing it?

Wow. That certainly takes willpower. I could barely sit through the PSAT when I took it. Why are you taking it so many times? That seems a little like cruel and unnecessary punishment ;)

lol. not really. It's the norm around here (look at my location). Anything less and I'm considered a freak of nature.

i'm pretty sure SAT at your location is fairly unusual to say the least. so get over your paranoia and stop wasting your parents' money.

i never asked them to pay it. they did it on their own. and what do you mean by: unusual?

SAT is an american thing, in case you didn't know.

Um...are you being sarcastic?
What are your scores? I really don't think there is a point to retaking the SAT reasoning test multiple times, because it's likely you are going to end up with a similar score repeatedly, unless you study like a nerd with rabies. What colleges are you aiming for?

hey dima, I know SAT is an American thing, but there are like a million people who take it worldwide. (and 2 milion inside the US)

And no, I'm not being sarcastic. I did take it 6 times. but there has been a 200 point increase since october 2005. i don't expect any increase in the score now, but it never hurts to try.

Well if you've got money and you don't mind spending 4 hours of your life taking a test (voluntarily) I say go for it! Just be aware that a lot of colleges get annoyed when they see that you have taken the SAT more than two or three times...

I personally would have liked to tkae it only a couple of times, but here's what happened:

I think my parents were ripped off. We met with the principal of my school (who was very impressed by my grade the previous year) and he said: All schools in Egypt are making their kids take it 10 times (6 in Junior year and 4 in senior year) abd he wasn't tricking us or anything; the schools here really do that. Anyway, he said: Pay for the 6 tests in advance (what a rip off!) and the other 4 next year. My parents hated the idea and so did I but that was our only option.
All the other kids were doing it and I had seen some pretty impressive jumps in scores before and I didn't want them to be higher so I (my parents really) decided to go along with it.

10 times is overdoing it imo.

overdoing is an understatement, in this case...i hope you didn't get like 2390 the first time and the other 5 times you've been trying to get 2400 or something

well it is unusual because we usually take the SAT 3 times at most.

kids at my school think 2 is safe, 3 is the max.

Maybe things are different in Egypt.

I've heard it said that taking the test more than 3 times starts to negatively affect your chances.

I have no idea why anyone would take it 10 times, or 6 times. 2-3 times is enough.

i've also heard that after 7 times, the record goes clear. you get a new slate.

6 times? why don't you take more practice tests and actually time yourself? 1] it's a WHOLE LOT cheaper, 2] saves time/energy, and 3] adcoms do look at it negatively. study for about 6 months straight (without taking the test) and take one last test.

6 x 4 = 24

24hrs of taking sat in total?!

^That's what I said. Here colleges couldn't care less if you took the test 100 times, as long as you meet their criteria.
For example: To get into Medical school here in Alexandria, They require a 1900 on the SAT and a 3+ GPA. (And a minimum of 2 SAT II subjects)
If I get that I'll be accepted, even if I took the test 10 times.

Whoa... TEN TIMES!? I think i would shoot myself before I took it that many times... seriously. I took it once, and my parents are making me take it a second time this october... but 10 times?? Do you take it every single time they administer it?
