My PSU chances? Also, school comparison.

Hey everyone.

I applied to PSU mid-October and have yet to hear anything back. When I applied my details were as follows:

GPA (weighted): 3.37

SAT: 2060

APs: Took 2 last year (U.S. History and Biology) and taking three this year (Government & Politics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics)

ECs: I've played sports every year (XC, Swimming, Tennis) and have varsity letters for swimming. In several clubs (Mock Trial, JSU, Ultimate Frisbee, Investment Club) and volunteered at the local JCC and fire station.

Note I called my school's guidance office in December to get an update on my GPA. It moved up to 3.7 for the first quarter.

Thoughts? Alot of people I know have been accepted and it's been bugging me since this is the school I really want to go to. I've already got acceptances to Pitt and Temple but I feel like PSU is the best choice for me and my field of interest, biotechnology. Also, in my application to PSU I marked that I wouldn't mind going for summer session as I'd heard that helps your chances.

Shameless bump.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t accept you. A lot of people with lower stats got in, so you have a great shot at getting in!

There are probably countless reasons why you have not received a decision yet. Maybe they make decisions by regions, majors, etc.

Especially since you marked summer, I think you’ll get in. Keep holding on and goodluck!

Penn State does not look at Senior grades at all, so that won’t help you there. Your weighted GPA is also very low. I hate to be blunt about it but you’ll probably get in a satellite campus. GPA is 2/3 of the decision for PSU, and SAT is only about 1/3. Maybe because you’ve selected summer session, you’ll get into that.

Yeah, GPA was my biggest concern but, as Mango15 mentioned, I’ve seen SO many kids with worse stats than myself (and out of state?!) get in already…

Typically if you have a low SAT you need a high GPA, and vice versa. I think your SAT shows that you are a strong candidate. I’ve seen kids get in with 1600’s on the SAT and your GPA (into summer session ofcourse) so I think you’ll be fine.

Your sat score is in par with psu but ur gpa is extremely low for penn state UP… Senior grades dnt matter to penn state… Summer is still difficult to get admission to for you because its mostly full now… I got accepted to fall but choosed to go in the summer bc it sounded fun… I just made my classes for the summer at psu last week and most of them are full…if not UP ull get in at a satellite

Good luck!

I already got admitted for Summer. Turns out that my GPA was actually a 3.7, haha.
