My RD chances

I’m applying to Wharton

Do I have a chance?

SAT Scores: 720 math, 670 critical reading, 770 writing (9 on essay)
ACT Scores: 35 math, 32 writing, 28 writing, 27 science, 31 composite
SAT II’s: 740 Math IIC, 710 IC, 660 US History, 650 Spanish (retaking and hoping above 700)
IB: Social Anthropology SL: 6

GPA: 4.0 Full IB
Weighted: 4.25
Rank 12/338 (over 90% from this public school go to college. best (or 2nd best) public school in the state of Oregon )

I’ve done two study abroads, so my Spanish should be much better.
Summer Internship at financial firm
Two sports
Two community service programs
Sophomore Class prez, student government 11 and 12
Constitution Team, 2nd in state
Some more stuff

Passion: Aviation

Good (really good?) recs

White male, no financial aid

you cant just say your passion is something without doing extracurriculars to back it up

I do stuff to back it up, I just didn't list that. The main thing would be my private pilot's license, which I just turned old enough to get, but haven't had the time yet...

well for wharton the 720 math, and 740 math II aren't too impressive

well, I would die for those math scores. I'm happy with my 620 Math and 680 math 1c, my school just hasn't prepared me at all....I hope Penn understands {exits stage right}

You have to make your passions shine in your essays, otherwise your chances are very slim.

Isn't the 35 on the ACT impressive (minus the 740 on IIC)?

update: 710 on Spanish

Thinking about retaking SAT I again if they will accept Jan testing date.

i got a 710 on my 2c and i got in.... cept that might not work for you cause washington (state) is far superior to oregon.

Pinkmuscat: Oregon sent 8 more students to Penn last year! The regional admissions officer said maybe it'll be the same this year! Oregon is better! (actually not really, but yea...). You applied ED, which really helps.

jhum..what do you mean your school didnt prepare you enough...we dont do any kind of SAT prep at my school...your supposed to do it yourself

Im not sure if this is what jhum is talking about, but...

if I go to an inner city school compared to an affluent suburb school, the classes and preparation are very different.

we don't have prep classes at all. in fact, i find the ib program not good at all for preparing us for the "AP" Sat II's. The material is different. We've got to study ourselves.
