my roommate gets to move in before me -__-

Well, many times there’s one bed near the door and one near a window. I think most people would prefer the one near the window, but not everyone of course.

You will be fine, no matter what you have a bed to sleep in, he cant take both. People have had bad roomates since the begining of time, but it is part of the college experience and something you can tell your kids about someday.

While there are always anecdotal roommate horror stories, everyone is making too big of a deal over this. Whatever happens will be fine; I bet your roommate isn’t even thinking about this issue. You’ll get what you get as far as sides of the room, and unless you freak out about it, you’re going to be FINE.

The side of the room/furniture you get will NOT make or break your college experience.

Is there even a “better side”? I thought it was more of a personal preference thing (i.e. I like the wall to my left when I sleep). The beds are going to be the same, the closets are probably going to be about the same, the desks are going to be the same lol.

This is what my room was like: asymmetrical. You could tell from each room who moved in first, because they had the window side  My roommate occasionally implied that he favored my side of the room over his, and the design wasn’t very fair, but we got along well and had a good time nonetheless.

It’s a dorm, there’s probably not a “better bed” If it’s a bunk bed issue and you hate the top bunk or whatever, just tell them.

My roommate also moved in before me, and the only thing that annoyed me was that they used up a lot of the outlets to plug in their stuff. That was solved by buying an extension chord.

You could always just talk to them about it. I liked having a roommate that was there before me because I could find out stuff about the dorm before moving in.

I was the one that got to move in early. Yay band! My roommate and I had already discussed some things. I was the only one getting the bed lofted (we had to order them from the university or be fined if we used another). So I chose the lofted bed… where it was. Wasn’t going to move it since it was taller than me and heavy and unstable, really… It happened to be the one next to the window but in the small corner.

Yet was the one that ended up getting 1/4 of the room. She moved in while I was at band practice and put plastic storage bins everywhere and ended up taking 3/4 of the room and basically every surface. Just to show that you can end up getting more than the one that moves in first.

This year my entire suite is in band so we move in together as do the people across the way. Still haven’t decided which bed to take since we will both be lofting this time. Oh well.
