My schedule (incoming freshman, neuroscience major)

What do you guys think? I am somewhat worried about having both chem and bio, but as a premed i realized i would have to eventually take bio at the same time as another science. and two sciences at once is nothing compared to med school, might as well get ready for it.

Chem- 117 Peters
Latin- 100
Philosophy- 100
Biol - 112 Ruensik

I've heard ruensik is tough, but that for premeds it's worth it. And he was offered at a much better time slot than Berndston who had her class at 8 am haha

Why not wait until second semester to find out whether you can handle 2 sciences at once? Especially since you’re a freshman (no offense, I’m a freshman too). I heard C117 is madd hard.

No pain, no gain! That is what premeds have to do considering the possible 2015 MCAT changes. If you have done well on both AP courses, it may be worthwhile trying.

I’ve also heard 117 is a lot of work, but I’m hoping it’ll be doable. Bio has no lab and I have class twice a week, hopefully I’m able to manage without taking too much time away from my chemistry studying. And there’s really no point to wait i guess, ill either be taking another, more advanced, chem course next semester or starting physics, which I’m terrible at. Don’t most premed science majors have two sciences most semesters?

Vikings,

I think that it may be necessary to take two science courses/semester as follows:

semester #1 - C117+ L112
semester #2 - C341 + L113
semester #3 - C342 + P221
semester #4 - N330 + P222
semester #5 - L211 + L311
semester #6 - MCAT

See the example of course schedule as a Biochem major:

There are some flexibility here. If one does not have AP Cal AB or BC credits, he/she may need to fit those in. The 2nd year looks pretty bad.

Wow, I didn’t realize how much this is going to be. I knew I needed a yeat of chem, orgo, bio, and phys, but it didn’t really register that it’ll be two sciences a semester plus my neurosciences courses that will just get harder every semester…gonna he a blast haha. So most premeds have two sciences a semester right? And follow the outline u said above? I just wanna know what the norm is for most ppl. Thanks!

@vikings,

You should be fine. If you can’t handle taking two sciences courses at once, you probably shouldn’t be pre-med. Ruesink is a great teacher. His class will be challenging, but it’s worth it.

yea I’ve heard Ruensik is tough, but I’m ready. Any advice from someone who has had him?

Spell his name right :stuck_out_tongue: But really pay attention in class, take good notes, attend all learning group sessions, read the book, and study a little every day.

my schedule has changed a little bit. I’m no longer taking Phil 100 and instead im taking HON-H 235. I’m somewhat scared that Bio and Chem will be too hard, especially with Ruesink…

I just need some reassurance haha. Cuz it’s all about keeping a good GPA, and i dont want to jeopardize that.

It may be tough, but there’s nothing to hold you back. If you work hard, you will be rewarded. Just put the time and effort into it and go to office hours.

after reading this post, I am considering taking two science classes, too. I am a neuroscience major as well and am a little nervous about two science classes being too much. I took AP Biology and AP Chemistry in high school, but I don’t know how it will stack up to a chemistry course like C-117. Has anybody else on here taken two science courses at once?
