My school's GPA

Hello,

So my school has a more “difficult” grading scale. An A is between 96 and 100, an A- is between 94 and 96 and so on…
Also, my school is considered a pretty good private high school. I don’t know what my GPA is, but by my own calculations I estimate it is between 3.7 and 3.95. The problem is, what will the colleges see on my transcript? Will they know that my school has a difficult grading scale and curriculum?

Also, my school does not rank so that is another issue.

Thanks

I know that counselors have to submit a secondary school report to colleges, but I’m not sure if that would include what you are concerned about. Perhaps you should ask the counselor, or maybe another poster will come along who can answer this.

You should probably ask your guidance counsellor about transcript specifics, but most transcripts list numerical (e.g. 1-100) marks which the colleges use. In any case, it should be okay with the school profile. Even if your school doesn’t rank officially, colleges have a general idea of your rank based on other applicants.

My high school transcript only listed letter grades, and I think this is true in most cases.

I agree that you should ask your guidance counselor if the grading scale is on the school profile, but I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If the grading scale is unusually harsh, the teachers have probably adjusted their standards accordingly.

If your high school is well regarded, selective colleges will probably have prior experience with it and they’ll be able to look at your application fairly.
