Hey guys, so I’ve been pretty much a straight A student but because of some unluckiness coupled with some laziness I received only one A and 6 B’s this semester :(. I was recently deferred from UMich and they asked for semester grades in their deferral letter. So am I basically rejected now? Also how will this affect USC, NYU, and Stern. Really nervous currently… Thanks guys.
If you were an adcom, how would you view a drop of straight A’s to nearly straight B’s? Work to get those grades up. In the meantime, go chat with your GC to figure out your options.
Senior year can definitely be rough (I went from solid As/A+s last year to a B- this year) but I agree, you should definitely talk to your guidance counselor. They’ll probably have some great suggestions and if nothing else, just put all your effort in to your midterms and second semester grades. I think UMich will reconsider if you can bring them mostly up to As. Good luck!
I would not worry about it. Do your best to improve them, but if you have a rigorous courseload and great GPA and test scores, I cannot see them affecting you.
C or D let alone F, that is different.
@austinmshauri @turney274 but those grades are already final for semester 1… I mean I’m confident I’ll get mainly As second semester but will that even matter since decisions will be made before final semester grades are out? like improving now won’t even help I feel.
They aren’t C’s or D’s, so as long as you study hard and do well the rest of the year I don’t think it will matter. You can ask your GC about your particular schools, but normally you hear from them if they have a problem. Study hard and do your best. Good luck.
