Hi everyone, due to technical difficulties my teacher submitted his letter of recommendation a day late. As I am an international applicant largely unfamiliar with the details of the application process, I would like to know whether I now have to write to the college (Harvard) informing them that my teacher had technical issues and asking them to still take a look at the letter. Is this necessary or will it only annoy the admission officers? Thanks for your help!
@obaminator - no need to fret about this. Harvard (and all colleges) accept things beyond your control for several days after the deadline. Look on your common app to see if the college has “downloaded” the recommendation. They usually do it 24 - 48 hours later. As long as they have downloaded, you have nothing to worry about.
Nothing. Most schools, including Harvard, give a few days grace period for documents out of your control.
Harvard (and other colleges) goes to great lengths to solicit applications from students all over the country and all over the world. Although cynics claim it does that only to make its admissions numbers look more selective, and although each individual application has a very small chance of being successful, it’s still the case that the admissions officers want to read your application. They are interested in seeing if you are the kind of person Harvard wants. They aren’t looking for technical reasons not to pay attention to your application.
Great, thanks a lot!
