<p>SAT II scores are killing me. I applied to the College of Engineering for Chemical Engineering and I'm pretty sure that my SAT II scores just screwed everything over. </p>

I wouldn't be so freaked out if it were any OTHER subject. But I have a 690 for CHEM and I wanna be a chemical engineer! Oh my goodness!</p>
<p>i have a 470 in chem... and a 530 in physics, and a 540 in bio-e... only thing i was in 600s for was math I and II and Us history. my major is atmospheric science, which is i guess half math, half physics... so my major isnt directly correlated... but I'm in a lot more peril than you are in </p>
<p>Plus Idk if CE is like CALS, but CALS said (hopefully it was true) since SATII were only "recommended", they cannot hurt your application.</p>
<p>There's nothing you can do about it now so just sit back and enjoy the turkey, lol.</p>
<p>Yea, your CHEM is a bit low for the CE, but hey if the rest of your application is good, your scores shouldn't kill your chances.</p>
<p>leave it to people on CC to insist their Thanksgiving holiday is ruined by a SAT II score that is not in the top-5% of the nation.</p>

<p>Your math and chem scores are the same as my S, who is an engineer at Cornell. Admission may be more competitive this year, but as a female, you definitely have an advantage. Another thing to think about is that in COE, students usually do not declare a major until their sophomore year, so your chem score shouldn't be judged any different than any other student applying to COE. Did you take a 2nd science SAT II and if so, are you happy with your score?</p>
<p>The problem is I've already declared my major - Chemical. Do you know if they take your major into consideration for admissions?
I didn't take any other science SAT IIs. I was hoping that my chem score would be good.
What was your son's intended major when he applied?
I applied ED and I think that ED is a lot numbers directed. Does anyone know if that's true?</p>
<p>it is , and it isnt... for schools like CAS and engineering it is very numbers directed. For CALS, ILR, Hotel, and Hum.ec, the major it possible the most important part of the application, followed by essays, ec's that correlate to the major, rec's, and then hooks, SAT/ACT scores, GPA, rank, blah blah blah</p>
<p>Your problem isn't that you have a low score, it's that everyone else applying to the CE has really high scores in both math and science. Just pray that enough people have horrible science scores so you can get in.</p>

<p>I meant to say "the major is* possibly* the most important part of the application... and I said that because that determines what applicant pool you are part of, a.k.a. competition level.</p>
<p>and everything should correlate to the major (meteorology=higher math than CR on SAT, higher Science and math on ACT, SATII's in science and math, science and math based ec's, ec's that relate to the major, a rec. from at least one sci. or math teacher, essays that really show the passion for that major... etc. ) The major you select really is the foundation of your application at Cornell.</p>
<p>AP - In answer to your question, my son applied as undeclared, but in his application essay, he expressed an interest in Mech E. I clearly remember hearing (or reading) that Cornell freshmen engineers are admitted into the COE only, and not directly into a particular major - that happens during sophomore year. Good thing for S, since after looking at the programs in detail and speaking with upperclassmen, he is no longer interested in Mech E.</p>

<p>don't worry about it. I'm in the exact same situation as you (no, actually, even worse). I applied A&S with a biology major and got a 660 on bio-E and 720 on math 1c (see I don't even have an awesome 790 to even it out). I'm retaking the bio-M and math 2c this week, but not sending them unless I improve (so when I get deferred <em>and hopefully not rejected</em>, I can maybe use them).</p>
