My Theory.

This is the theory I've formulated after pondering what happened yesterday with decisions, tell me what you guys think!

Earlier this week I read multiple articles from The Spectator criticizing Columbia for giving it's ED applicants a 300% better chance of acceptance. I think that perhaps in order to change this Columbia accepted less and deferred more, thus making ED a bit more "fair". I also think that if this is true, then Columbia will increase it's acceptance rate for deferees come RD decision time, knowing that those who were defered will most likely still matriculate in the fall, as Columbia was there first choice.

What do you think guys? A possibility? Or the sad hopes of a really sad deferee?

I'm thinking your setting yourself up for false hopes...yes, you may get in RD, but I doubt the deferree to admittee in RD rate will jump much, if at all

im not trying to set myself up for false hopes, i just hate being deferred and want to know why it seems like so few people were accepted and so many were deferred. i absolutely hate having to wait longer and have considered retracting my app a few times over the past 24 hours. that being said, im just doing some harmless theorizing.

I thought the ed rate was about the same though, and I doubt they would give ed'ers a 300% better chance...that just seems a bit skewed if you ask me

im just saying what the article stated. after all, rd acceptance was 10% and ed was 26%....not exactly a 300% improvement but you understand what they meant. also where did you hear that the ED rate was about the same? im interested to see this years stats.

they haven't been published yet, but I've been hearing that a lot, I'm not saying I'm right, just I don't being deferred is a HUGE advantage like the article seems to make it
