My Transfer Dilema

I currently attend Simmons College. It's a small, no-name, women's college in Boston. It was never my first choice; however, due to personal problems (mostly being too indecisive and afraid to live alone) I chose to study here. Now I want to transfer.

I have made some really odd choices (I think) in terms of universities. I chose FIU because I have tons of family in Florida, and since I've reasoned with the fact that I can't live somewhere where I don't know anyone, it seems like a good choice. I also chose UT Austin because my best friend is thinking of going there and also because to simply think of warm weather fills me with joy. I also chose Smith College because, well, it's kinda my dream school.

I'm thinking of majoring in Women’s Studies, English, or French/Foreign Languages.
I don't know if this information is needed for my upcoming questions, but I'm thinking of pursuing teaching or interpretation/translation as a career.

My GPA for this semester was 3.7. I was working full-time while attending school. I have many extracurricular activities from both HS and my first semester of college. I'm Puerto Rican.

My questions:
Am I aiming too high or too low with my choices in universities?
Is Smith obviously the best choice for WS?
Does UT Austin excel at any of my majors? Does FIU? Or am I just choosing them out of convenience?
Are UTA and FIU 'good' universities?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i would say smith is the best of your choices, and your gpa is good, so i don’t see why you shouldn’t apply. my friend just transferred to smith for fall 09 and she absolutely loves it. she said that stressing the need for community really helped her app, so maybe you could write something about that.

Thanks. I’ll definitely keep that in mind when writing the apps. :)

I’m in FIU currently, seeing to transfer to FSU because of a major change decision.
You have amazing good chances of getting into FIU, believe me. It’s the local university and it’s always seeking more students. Many of the students I recognize as slackers from my previous HS with decent subnormal gpa’s.

It’s rising as far as ‘good’ schools go. The law school has an extremely high passing rate for the bar exam, and the new medical school is becoming active.

Our English major leaves a great deal to be desired, but our language departments are pretty good. (Although I should warn you that one of the main professors in the French Language department has a thick creole accent). I’ve heard the women’s studies classes are fun.
