anyone participate in the Kaplan/Newseek essay contest? if so, what did you write about?

I participated. I wrote about my initial fear of entering high school, and how I overcame these fears to find strength through difficulty. What did everyone else write about?

Participated in that contest last year. Didn't win though. Wrote about a summer experience abroad.

I participated, I just submitted one of my college essays about track. It was weird because I read the conests' sample "perfect essay" about a kid who won a mock trial championship that won first prize a number of years ago, and I really didn't think it was very good. Maybe I just have terrible taste. Good luck to you if you entered.

I hope that I win something because I need money for college badly. deadhead06, what did you write about?

i wrote about helping a friend with drug problems (it was my college essay that has me 4/4 in colleges so far :) )

i wrote about living w/ my dad's bipolar disorder and what it means to be crazy in American society

I sent in something I'd written originally for my school paper about going to a concert with my dad.

ya, i read their sample winner essays and they didn't strike me as especially amazing. but there are so many applicants!

About how many applied last year?

like 10000

whooa....I knew that it was competitive, but not this competitive.

i really wanted to enter, but i never get the inspiration i need when i want it. too bad, i liked the idea of the essay they wanted you to write. good luck to all-
